Chapter 12:

The next morning was a very busy day in Ebony's household

Michael was in 'his' room/ office on the phone all day. He was running up her phone bill, but it was Mike. How could she complain?

Nothing could be heard but the chirping of the birds outside of her window. The blinds were slightly cracked, just enough to let some sunlight in—not too much though. Although she wasn't a 'celebrity' herself, she did live in the area with quite a few of them, and she has had to be vigilant to protect her privacy. Besides, Mike was here. She wanted to make sure his stay was as seamless as possible.

Taking out a few plates, she set the oil up and began dropping the floured—chicken into the hot grease. She was making his favorite, Fried chicken. And for dessert, she was making sweet potato pie. She was one of the only ones that Kathrine shared her recipe with, and she made sure to use it as leverage to get whatever she wanted form Mike. She never wanted anything big—just a piggie-back ride or a turn on his videogame or something like that. Or maybe she'll get him to help her with something like carrying something heavy for her.

She began to hum to her own tune as she removed the finished chicken from the grease and placed it on some napkins to drain. She was brought from her thoughts by the sound of a squeaking chair. It was no other than Michael himself. He was looking really adorable. His now short hair was kind of out of place, but not too much. His jherri curl  kept his hair looking nice. And besides, she always pestered him about protecting his hair at night. She'd even gone as far as to buy him his own set of bonnets and a few du-rags. He chose the bonnets because of the lack of maintenance, so that's what he wore.

Anyways, he grabbed an apple from the basket on the table and took a bite from it. After swallowing, he looked at her with a large grin on his face. He was excited, but he still looked tired. He hated the business side of things, but he still loved giving new music to his fans.

"Guess what, E?" Michael asked before taking a bite out of his apple. He didn't give her a chance to answer before he started speaking again: "Off The Wall' is doing great with the execs. They're satisfied with the Visuals for 'Rock With You' and It should be out next friday!"

A smile broke out on her face as she placed his plate before him. She also handed him a bottle of white wine. "That's great, Michael! I can't wait to see it. I know you worked so hard on it." She remembered sitting on the phone with her best friend and listening to him rattle off lyrics to her, or hum a melody. He worked all hours into the night, but that's how he always worked since he was a kid. He gave all or nothing."

He started eating greedily as he savoured the soulfood she'd made for him. He blushed alittle as he peeked over at her eating. Ebony was the only woman who cooked for him, and she did it so effortlessly, and so often. She was so sweet and loving, but she also understood him. He'd pretty much always had a crush on her, but he was never going to do anything about it. He was much too shy, so he just took a large gulp of his wine and enjoyed his meal.
