Thousands of demons - if not more - resonated around the church and Zadie was right in the middle. Zadie had squeezed into a tight spot less than a hundred yards from the church entrance. This is where she studied the building, memorizing as much as she could. So far, there was no other way in except for the main doors. For the most part, the structure had been left intact, with unnatural looking add-ons that made her skin crawl. They had turned it into a hellish hive of stoney spikes and spires that protruded from all sides.  Each one twisted in an upward race that made them look like demonic fingers.

The hairs on her arms stood up right before a blinding red flash filled her vision as it shot towards the clouds. Another shot came from the roof of the building, which was followed by a deep boom that resonated throughout the surrounding area. A responding light show stretched across the skies in a dizzying effect.  By the time Zadie’s ears stopped ringing, the parking lot had overflowed with shadowy figures. Their screams rose in unison as they moved inside. Unable to figure out the connection, Zadie knew she had to move soon. It would only be a matter of time before she was discovered. No matter what happened, the source had to be destroyed.

    There.

Zadie diverted her attention to a drainage ditch that was a mere thirty yards away. Thirty yards in the open, Zadie counted the steps. She needed a distraction. As much as it hurts, it had to be done. There was no other way, and it had come down to this moment. A moment she had been prepared to do since the beginning. Without looking, she reached into the backpack and removed a leather worn bible.  Zadie held the book close to her lips in quiet desperation. With one last shred of regret, she threw it as far as she could and waited. Her eyes squeezed shut began to whisper words that had not been spoken in centuries.
