"We're almost there," Onyx said excitedly, bouncing in his seat.
This was the Onyx only a few people ever got to see. The playful, boyish side of Onyx Wilson was cute as anything.
Our tour van stopped in front of an old, spanish-style mansion. It was actually a hotel owned by the family of Onyx's best friend and personal trainer.
We got out of the van just as a tall, attractive young man emerged from the hotel. He and Onyx exchanged a man hug.
"Good to see you, Bro," Onyx told him.
"You look great, Man," he replied.
An amazing display of bromance, if I ever saw one.
Onyx beckoned to me. "Oz, this is Shana. Shan, this is Oz Wallas."
We shaked hands. He flashed me a pleasant smile. "You rascal," he said to Onyx when he let go of my hand. "You failed to tell me how beautiful she really is. And fit, too!"
I laughed. Onyx had mentioned once how obsessed Oz was with healthy bodies, as it was understandably his line of work. "You would be horrified if you knew what I eat," I teased him.
Onyx nodded. "I was shocked the first time I saw this woman eat. She ate about thrice what I did. She's still tiny though." He winked at me.
"In that case," Oz said, "I'm going to make you one of my tower sandwiches. I stack them with all the good stuff so you can eat to your heart's content without the guilt."
I'm sure stars shone out of my eyes at that.
We started prepping for the show. It was a busier day than most because after our mall show we were going to do a few promotional shots around Oz's breathtaking hometown.
Thankfully, the show didn't take too long because there was a boy group who was scheduled after us. We had lunch and then we were herded off to the make up team.
The sun was behind the clouds when the photo shoot started. I was thankful for that because we had layers of clothing on that looked great on camera but felt uncomfortable at best. Onyx and I both agreed that a photo shoot required a lot of patience. We had to be in front of the camera for what seemed like forever, then we had to change wardrobe, then the team had to retouch our makeup, sometimes change our hairstyle, then repeat the process all over again. Sometimes it took two to three cycles of that.
Sure enough, after the shoot, Onyx and I were ready to drop. It didn't matter how fit we were, or how much we ate. We were still so exhausted.
"ShanOn! One more thing!" And then we were given the AccEnt mike. Sometimes we had to do behind-the-scenes interviews, even after a long day, unfortunately.
Poor Onyx took a deep breath and flashed a game smile. In solidarity, I summoned what energy I had left and answered the questions with him.
After that, finally, we went back to our hotel rooms where our handlers were waiting. I was too tired to even change my clothes or take my makeup off. I promptly fell into bed and slept.
I woke suddenly to a hand gently shaking my shoulder. "Shan," Onyx said softly.
"What? Didn't you sleep?" I asked him, rubbing my eyes.
"Not yet. I was hungry." He laughed. "I bet you are too. Here," he handed me something wrapped in brown paper.
"What's this?" I asked. It was a bit heavy.
"Oz made a sandwich for you. Eat it before you go back to sleep," he instructed. He kissed my forehead then headed to his room to sleep.
"Whoa," I said when I unwrapped it. It was a monster sandwich! My stomach rumbled in response.
It tasted great despite my initial skepticism. I had always thought that healthy food tasted terrible. I was happy to be wrong for once. I made a mental note to ask Oz how to make one of these.
I was halfway through it when my lids started getting heavy again. I had met my need for food, and my need for sleep was now at the forefront. Before I knew it, I was asleep again.
I woke up hours later. The sandwich was gone. 'Rei must have taken it,' I thought with a giggle. I showered and felt loads better.
I checked my phone. About a hundred notifications popped up. Apparently, a lot of people had liked and commented on a photo I was tagged in.
I opened it to see me asleep with the sandwich in my hand. Oz had taken it and captioned it with, 'I was supposed to feel bad seeing how @imshanaque had fallen asleep in the middle of consuming the sandwich I made especially for her. But the poor girl was exhausted, so she's forgiven. See how pretty she is even when she's sleeping? ;-) @theonyxwilson,'
I laughed. Oz was as cheeky as his friend. I liked the photo and posted a quick reply.
'It was delish, @ozwallas. You gotta teach me how to make one sometime.'
He was quick to respond.
'Anytime, baby girl.'
I knew how careful Onyx was in choosing his friends, and Oz was no exception. Which was why it was such a good feeling, being accepted by him wholeheartedly.
I had been meeting good people lately, and I owe it all to Onyx. :)
