Later that night, Sakata stared at his phone while sitting with his legs folded underneath his thighs. He was debating already on if he should text the other male...would it be too soon? Should he wait another day before texting so he didn't seem too clingy or desperate? Taking in a deep breath of air, he shook his head, grabbed his phone and decided to just do it. He wouldn't chicken out!
Opening up his phone, he scrolled through his contacts towards the one he labeled 'Cute Tsundere' and sent a quick starter text.'
To Cute Tsundere: 'Hey, you still awake?'
From Cute Tsundere: 'Oi, what do you think I am, old? It's only 8pm.'
To Cute Tsundere: 'Ohh, you're right. I didn't even look at the time! I was so preoccupied with thinking of if I wanted to text you or not.'
Oh no, he hadn't meant to text that. Delete, delete. Oh god he hit send not delete! Now the poor redhead was panicking at his mistake, his face flushed in embarrassment. Now he could only watch in horror as it showed on his side 3 dots appearing, only to disappear and reappear. Did he make the other mad?
~~~~
On the contrary, Sakata made the other spit out the mouthful of tea he was drinking in surprise. That, he wasn't expecting. However, it was oddly charming, and perfect teasing material.
To Adorable Idiot: 'Thinking of me, so late at night~?'
From Adorable Idiot: 'No! I mean, yes, but not like that...' There was a pause before another message followed after.
From Adorable Idiot: 'I was afraid you would think I was desperate if I texted you so soon.'
Urata felt that same warm spark from that morning flicker through his entire being once more at those words. It was as if he could feel just how shy the other was only through a simple text.
And he wanted to see it, not read it. Without even thinking through his actions, Urata wrote out his response.
To Adorable Idiot: 'Can you video chat? I suddenly forgot how much I dislike texting.' Which was an utter lie, he could hide his emotions through text, but facial expressions and tone of voice had a way of giving away emotion. Yet something inside of him desperately wished to see the redhead once again.
From Adorable Idiot: 'Sure! Let me just find my laptop first, then I'll be good to go!' It was annoyingly cute how Urata could hear the others' cheerfulness oozing through his texts.
His heart skipped a beat thinking of seeing the other again...was he sick?
~~~~
Once he was all set up with his laptop, Sakata awaited Urata's call. He was unbearably nervous. This particular type of nervousness he had never felt before. One accompanied with his palms sweating, his heart beat increasing in speed; his face was probably flushed too yet he had no way of telling. Was he nervous because it had been so long since he had video called someone before?
That had to be it. It certainly had nothing to do with Urata...could it?
Lost in thought, he was startled at the sudden sound of the call starting, immediately answering it. "Good evening Ura!"
"I don't remember giving you permission to call me that." A voice grumbled from behind a giant tanuki plush.
Sakata widened his eyes in surprise at that, giggling softly as he rummaged around for his own stuffed animal. It seemed they had similar interests. He was curious about the keychain the other had on his phone, and it seemed there was a theme going on. "Look, we're similar now!"
Urata peeked around the object in his hands for a better look at his screen and felt a small smile pulling at the corners of his lips. "It suits you. A dog, for an unnaturally large puppy."
The redhead huffed and puffed up his cheeks. "Who's a puppy?" He was unsure of if he was meant to take that as a compliment or not, though the sudden chuckle that erupted from the other side of the screen seemed to dub it the former.
"I wonder~"
~~~~
They both went back and forth just like this for the next hour or so. Most of it was Urata picking at Sakata, or them both having mini arguments that would end with them both breaking out into fits of laughter as they wondered why they even started arguing at all. Eventually, Sakata started getting tired, and would yawn every other sentence.
"Just go to sleep." Urata would scold the other. It was already 1am, they had been talking for so long. Neither had even really taken notice of the time. They were too busy getting to know each other more.
"Don't wanna." Sakata slurred out, followed by yet another yawn as he brought his stuffed dog closer to his chest.
"Don't care. Do it."
"But Uraaa~"
"Didn't I say not to call me that? Ugh, why am I trying to argue with a tired person. Sakata. I will end this call right now myself if you do not go to sleep." Urata tried once more, with his most stern voice to get the other to get some rest.
And it worked, for Sakata shot up, gasped in horror and immediately pouted. "Please don't! I'm going, I promise." If he wasn't such an idiot, he would have realized that the others' threat made little sense. And with that, he closed the call with a faint wave and a soft 'good night'.
Urata watched, closing his own laptop only after he made sure the video call properly disconnected and let out a prolonged sigh. "I think I'm starting to lose my mind..." He grabbed his phone, immediately dialed up a familiar number and waited as his phone rang.
After 3 rings, a tired voice answered. "Uratan? What is it so early? Are you hurt?" Despite being half asleep, Shima was still trying his best to show his concern for his best friend.
Inhaling a deep breath of air, Urata with as much confidence as he could responded back. "I think I'm dying."
Instantly, the call was ended, which irritated the brunet to no end and he immediately called the other back. "Oi! I'm being serious here!"
Shima sighed on the other side of the phone, bringing a palm to his face to softly facepalm himself. "Explain, I'm really confused. It is 1am, could you possibly change your schedule to die a little later in the day? I'm really tired.""Listen to me just this once!"
"Fine fine fine. Your yelling woke me up. Tell me more." Shima yawned once more, then a rustling was heard on the other side, probably him moving his position into one more comfortable.
"I think I'm allergic to idiots. That or just Sakata. Can a person be allergic to a specific person? Anyway. We were in a call for most of the night because..." Crap, if he told the other it was his own idea he would surely get teased! "Because the idiot requested to, and the whole time my chest felt weird. I get warm and fuzzy feelings, and my heart beat would skip frequently. Isn't that symptoms of some serious disease out there? I'm dying aren't I? Maashi tell it to me straight!"
Urata heard what was most likely Shima facepalming extremely hard on the other end, followed by a loud sigh. "You're not dying...yet I'm starting to question if your stupidity rivals that of Sakatans."
"Excuse me? So am I dying or not?"
"No, but I'm not going to explain it to you. Find out what it is on your own, I give up trying to help you, especially at 1 in the morning."
"Do you think that's wise?" Another voice chipped in, softer and beside Shima. Urata could tell right away that it was Senra, and felt his own face flush at the idea of them sharing a bed, especially so late at night.
"He'll be fine." Shima cooed back to his lover, gently kissing him, or so Urata assumed from sound alone. "Good night Ura."
"Night Urata!" Senra chipped in before the call was ended.
With that, he set his phone down on his dresser beside his bed, laid down and faceplanted into his pillow.
He was doomed.
I called this a short story dang it, I must not let it become more than 10 chapters. My ultimate goal now www I changed the style of texting for this chapter too, because the nicknames will change in the future, and I want that change to be noticeable
