Just before falling asleep that night, Sakata had made absolutely certain to set his alarm for 8am the next morning. That would give him just enough time to procrastinate waking up for at least 5 minutes, actually wake up, then go through his daily morning routine before heading out for his so called 'date'. Knowing of his own horrible mistakes in the past with alarms, he checked not just once or twice, but three times to be absolutely certain the time was correct. And it was. Thank goodness.

With his mind at rest, he lay his phone down next to his pillow, grabbed his plushie of a dog which he could never sleep without; he found it difficult some days to sleep without something to snuggle with, and he closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep.

At exactly 8am, his alarm sounded, increasing in volume for a solid minute until there was no interaction. It silenced until 5 minutes later, where it tried again. This time, Sakata groaned softly, still half asleep and fumbled with his phone. He had meant to hit the snooze button in hopes that it would come back and attempt to wake him in another 10 minutes.

Yet, by pure unluckiness, he had swiped the 'dismiss' command, and his alarm was dismissed.

As 9am rolled by, his body instinctively shot up, and he brought his phone to his face for a closer look. "Oh no..." Sakata muttered, panicking as the numbers 9:01am greeted him. "I'm going to be late!" He yelled out to absolutely no one but himself, jumping out of bed and tossing his stuffed toy to who knows where in his room in the process. He nearly tripped over one of his desks' legs in his frantic attempts to leave his room in a timely manner once dressed.

Before he did leave the room, he stopped to fix the mess he called hair he almost forgot to brush. His absent mind was going to be the death of him one of these days...Breathing out a sigh, he ran a comb through his hair, grinning happily once he deemed himself perfect. Not a hair out of place now!

Then he looked to his phone once more for the time. Somehow, it was already 9:10! He wouldn't have time to eat breakfast if he wanted to make it on time, though 'on time' would still be difficult to pull off. He would still try! Filled with determination, Sakata slipped into his shoes, grabbed his bike and headed off. It was his only option of transport at this point. Not that he minded, though he did hope his date wouldn't mind him just walking around with a bike...Oh well! Thoughts for later!

"He's late!" An irritated man yelled into his phone's microphone, uncaring to how hurt the receiver's ears would feel after. Urata stood outside the movie theater set for his so called 'date, one arm settled on his hip while his other clenched his handheld device.

"By 5 minutes! Uratan, maybe you're just too excited by this date~ Seeing how you arrived 30 minutes early." Shima teased back to his friend, content that the angry shorty couldn't hurt him if he wasn't nearby.

"Huh? That's just common date courtesy. The earlier you arrive, the earlier the date starts and the sooner it can end." Urata stated as if that was common knowledge.

"That...isn't exactly how it works. I'm so sorry Sakatan, I should have found you someone better." The other made his regrets purposefully known.

"Oi! I heard that. Shouldn't you feel worse for me? I'm the one having to stand here waiting for him-" Before he was able to continue with his complaints, he was cut off by a rather loud, worried scream.

"I'm sorry, but please get out of the way!!"

~~~~
For Sakata, it was a race against time to meet his date, and unfortunately this race was one he was losing. It felt as if the faster he peddled, the more time flashed by. Soon enough, by the time he did arrive and the familiar sight of the city's theater came into view, he was already 5 minutes late.
His date would probably hate him...
His brain filled with primarily this thought, the redhead didn't take notice as he approached an inconveniently placed fountain. The only warning he had gotten was as the front wheel of his bike was already in the process of flipping forward into the fountain, propelling him through the air...and towards some poor stranger!
"I'm sorry, but please get out of the way!!" Sakata tried to warn the other man, but was too late as he slammed into them, the force throwing them both to the ground.
"Ow..." He muttered out of reflex, but he himself wasn't hurt at all. In fact, he hadn't landed on the concrete? But if not, what had he landed on? Glancing down, Sakata took in the sight below him. He had safely landed atop the chest of the poor person he was flung towards. Tilting his head upwards more to get a better look at the others face, to make sure he wasn't in any serious pain or anything, he flushed a soft shade of pink when he noticed then that their lips were now dangerously close together. "I'm sorry!" He darted his head back.
"Stop yelling, you idiot. In case you haven't noticed, we're a little close." Urata grumbled, his eyes closed as he winced in pain for a moment.
"I'm sorry." Sakata repeated, quieter this time. His eyes drifted up higher to where the others' were, waiting for them to open. He needed some sort of indication on if the other was alright.
As Urata did finally open his eyes, both men felt as if the whole world around them stopped once ruby met emerald.
A spark rippled through their bodies.
It was as if something was shaken inside of them, but not yet fully opened.
Odd. Very odd. And if either of them had either listened to the signs their friends had told them of this phenomenon or in the brunet's case, if he believed in it, they would have known right away what it could have possibly meant.
Yet both of them were a pair of idiots.
Once the warm feeling left by the spark left him, Sakata finally remembered their positioning and jumped off Urata's chest. "I'm so sorry again! I'm late for my date, and I wasn't watching where I was going and I-" He hadn't realized he was rambling until the other suddenly jabbed a finger in his direction.
"It's you! You're the one who made me wait!" Lifting himself off the ground now, Urata sauntered over and placed both palms to his hips. "Haven't you ever heard of...I don't know, being on time?"
Scrunching up his eyebrows in a dislike for the others tone, Sakata looked down towards the smaller male and let out a soft 'hmph'. "It was only 5 minutes. You don't exactly need to be so rude about it."
For some reason, the fact that the other was looking down on him physically irked the brunet even more. "I'm not rude, you're just insensitive of others time."
"I slept in, sue me! You're only so angry because.." Come on Sakata, think of some witty come back! "Because you're so short!" Smooth.
Urata felt the urge to reach over and punch his date grow stronger, though if he did he knew he would never hear the end of it from his friends. Instead, he shot the other an irritated glare until his phone alarm started going off. "Ah, the movie starts soon."
Sakata froze in place at his sudden mood change. They were just fighting and suddenly he was able to brush that all away. Is that what they call...a cool guy? Maybe it was just him.
"Lets go, though I won't be opposed to watching a movie by myself if you're stuck frozen right there. A date with myself..." He grinned at the thought.
The redhead sighed, shaking his head before joining the other. Nope, definitely not cool at all.
~~~

Regrets. Urata had many regrets, and they had only just finally sat down. He regretted asking if the other wanted anything from the concession stand. He regretted offering to pay. When they finally walked away, he was carrying a container of popcorn, a soft drink for each of them and somehow the redhead charmed his way into only carrying a bag of cotton candy???

Urata Wataru was weak to puppy eyes, or so he had learned today.

Sighing, the brunet led the way, reminding him vaguely of a pet owner and their loyal companion with how the other happily followed him along.

And was that a tail wagging he saw?

A smile crept onto his face at the image, one he immediately forced away as they continued along until they finally settled down in their seats. "Here." He shoved the drink over to the other with an uncaring tone of voice.

"Oh! Thank you~" Either unnoticing or uncaring of it, Sakata accepted it happily.

Truly an idiot.

Once more letting out a sigh, Urata turned his attention towards the screen as the movie started to play.

It was like most other romantic comedies. Both characters meet in some comedic way. Some spin of fate pushes them together, though not without wacky struggles they had to push through first.

Urata noticed at anything remotely funny how the other would cover his mouth and let out a giggle. Despite his attempts to hide it, he was able to hear how sweet and melodious it was. And without his permission, his own face would gain a soft shade of pink as he stared in awe.

"Urata?" Sakata whispered worried when he noticed the other staring one of the many moments this would happen. It was too dark in the room for him to notice the color on the others face, however he was still confused.

"N-nothing." Was his response as Urata darted his head back to the screen. 'What am I doing!'

~~~~
Something Sakata noticed that Shima hadn't brought up before was how kind Urata was. Most people during their first meeting with him would tell him off for his carefree attitude, or yell at him for using his puppy dog eyes to get what he wanted.
Instead Urata, after sighing and complaining a little about it, gave in and even paid for everything he wanted. Something so small and insignificant to most others meant surprisingly a lot to him.
"Stop spacing out, it makes you look 10 times more stupid." While lost in thought, Urata brought him back with some teasing which forced the redhead to send a glare back in the shorter man's direction.
Never mind he took that back!
Another thing he took notice of during the movie was that every time one of the main characters either did something predictable or unexpected, the man beside him made absolutely sure to voice his thoughts. With either a 'pff, so predictable.' Or a, 'woaah! I didn't see that coming!' The more he learned about the other from this experience really opened his eyes to a new perspective on the man from their first meeting...Granted, the whole bad start was his own fault.
As the end credits finally rolled on, they both waited for everyone else to leave first before turning to one another.
"So I-" Sakata started.
"Do you-" Urata spoke in tune.
"No, you first." Sakata shook his head and motioned for Urata to speak first.
The brunet sighed, raised his arm up behind his neck and scratched at it for a moment before forming his words. "Do you...maybe want to go on another date or something? I didn't hate this or anything, and I know Shima will complain if I don't try for another date-" In all reality, he was trying to find excuses as to why he couldn't straight up say he wanted another date himself.
Sakata's eyes immediately sparkled in surprise and joy. "Of course! I'd love to! Oh, do you think I could have your number? It feels weird going through Maashi for stuff like this." He dug his phone out of his pocket and held it out right after suggesting the idea, without waiting for a confirmation.
"It would make sense." Urata did the same, pulling out his own phone, one with a cute tanuki key chain and they swapped devices to type in their information. "Here." Once done, he handed it back."
"So I guess...text you later?" Sakata questioned, to be absolutely sure it would be okay if he did so later. It still felt like a dream.
"Whenever. I guess..." Urata trailed off as they made their way towards the exit of the movie theater. "This is goodbye." Before he walked too far away, he pointed toward the fountain they met by. "Oh also. Your bike is probably drenched. Have fun getting home." With that, he left.
"Eh?" Sakata blinked, confused for a moment before rushing over and yelling loudly in horror. Now he'd have to walk home or risk a wet butt! "Urata, you meanie!!"
