Chapter Sixteen:
"I Don't Regret It."
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.Jack hummed, the gentle summer breeze blowing his blond hair out of his blue eyes. He listened intently as Beverly spoke, his hand gripping the wooden log that he, Mike, and Eddie sat on. Jack had his head leaned back, his face turned towards the soon to be setting sun.
Eddie leaned forward, peering past Mike to catch subtle glimpses of Jack. Surprisingly, Jack and Eddie hadn't spoken since they won the fight with Pennywise. Jack had been throughly convinced that Eddie had come to regret their many kisses. Jack hoped with everything he had that he didn't regret it, if Eddie did, Jack would certainly fall apart completely.
Jack inhaled sharply, glancing over at Eddie and catching a glimpse of the lover written on his cast. He missed hanging out with the germaphobe, but he couldn't handle rejection from him. Jack had only returned to Eddie's window once since the fight, because he seemed different. A kind of different that made Jack worry and wonder if he had done the wrong thing by kissing him that day.
"I can only remember some parts," Beverly said, clasping her hands together and locking her gaze on the grass in front of her. Her voice was shaky as she blinked away any tears threatening to spill from her blue eyes. "I thought I was dead.."
Beverly paused, looking up from the grass and locking eyes with Jack before continuing. "I saw us, all of us, back together.. In the sewers again. Only we were our parents ages." She explained, shaking her head, a stoic expression forming on her face.
Eddie tore away his eyes from Jack as the blond boy readjusted his position, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. "Why the fuck were we in that shitty place?"
"Wh-What were we all do-d-doing there?" Bill asked, straightened his back.
Beverly shrugged, her throat becoming dry as goosebumps appeared on her body. "I-I don't know.. I just remember how we felt. We were all so.. so scared. I don't think I can ever forget that."
Jack frowned, glancing at Eddie, who straightened his back and cleared his throat when he noticed that Jack's eyes were focused on him. Bill stood up, leaning down and picking up a broken piece of glass from the ground. He straightened his back, rolling his shoulders and gripping the glass in his hand. "Sw-Swear it. Swear if It com-comes back again.. We'll come back too."
Jack swallowed as Bill sliced his palm open without flinching. He looked up from his bleeding palm and glancing at each person's face expectantly. Jack wiped his sweaty hands on his plaid shirt, watching as Beverly stood from where she previously sat.
Beverly's eye twitched as the glass cut her hand. Bill looked up from Beverly's bleeding hand, locking eyes with her. Jack cleared his throat, standing up and extending his arm to Bill. "Just fucking do it, man."
Bill nodded, taking Jack's hand into his own. Bill's hands were softer than he'd expected, but that thought went out the window the moment he felt the glass slice the palm of his hand open. Jack squeezed his eyes shut, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth as a way to try and ease the pain. Eddie watched with concern as Jack shook his hand, blood dripping onto his fingertips as he did so. Feeling brave, Eddie stood up too. "I swear."
The corner of Jack's lips turned up in a small smile as he looked at his feet. He missed the sound of Eddie's voice. He missed a lot of things about Eddie. However, Jack missed the feel of his lips against his own the most. He missed how Eddie's lips always had a tint of medicinal taste to them.
Richie, Ben, and Mike stood up next. Stan took more convincing, as he was clearly terrified out of his mind. Eventually, Jack and Bill managed to convince Stan to join them.
Jack's eyes focused on the trees ahead of him as he became acutely aware of Eddie's hand in his as they took an oath. Eddie held his gaze on Eddie, silently screaming at Jack to look at him, even a simple glance.
The moment Jack pulled his hand from Eddie's, he missed the feeling.
"Well, I gotta go. My mom's probably freaking the fuck out right now." Jack laughed, wiping his hand on his pants, causing a red streak to stain his jeans. "See you freaks later."
A chorus of laters and byes was heard by Jack as he walked away, the warm end of summer breeze had a sweet smell as Jack turned to look up at the clouds.
"Jack! Jack, wait up!" The sound of Eddie's voice caused Jack to freeze in his tracks. He closed his hand into a fist, wincing at the feeling of his fingers digging into the wound on his palm. "Can-Can you... Can you turn around?"
Jack swallowed thickly, letting his head fall as he stood in place. Eddie huffed, stepping closer and wrapping his hand around Jack's wrist. His voice was strained and just barely above a whisper. "Please?"
Jack pulled his lip in between his teeth, slowly turning around. The. blond boy kept his head down, avoiding eye contact with the asthmatic boy.
Eddie inhaled slowly, tightening his grip on Jack's wrist. "Why have you been avoiding me?"
Jack stayed silent. He didn't know what to say. He'd spent hours fantasizing and imagining what he would say to Eddie once he finally got the guts to face him.
Minutes passed in silence, Eddie becoming firm in his idea to not leave until Jack talked to him.
"You regret it, don't you?" Jack finally said, his voice cracking as the sentence left his lips. Jack slowly raised his head, locking eyes with Eddie. The shorter boy's expression changed from annoyance to shock.
"What?" Eddie mumbled, knitting his eyebrows together. "Why would you think that?"
Jack shrugged, kicking the ground as Eddie stepped closer. "J, answer me.."
Jack swallowed, glancing down at Eddie's lips for a split second before sighing heavily. "Because.."
Eddie rolled his eyes, sliding his hand to the back of Jack's neck and pulling him down to eye level. Jack's heart skipped a beat, a shaky breath leaving his lips as he stared into Eddie's eyes. Jack scanned Eddie face, trying to assess what was going on in his head.. what he was thinking and what he was feeling.
Eddie closed his eyes, slowly leaning forward and planting a short kiss against his lips. Jack's heart skipped a beat as Eddie pulled back for a split second before reconnecting their lips. Jack fluttered his eyes shut as he moved his hand to cup Eddie's cheek to deepen the kiss. Eddie's mind fell blank as he smiled into the kiss, pulling Jack in closer by his neck.
Slowly, Eddie pulled away, a small grin spreading across his face as Jack leaned his forehead against his.
"I don't regret it."
