I wake up to Liam's eyes staring back at mine. I blink them a couple times and kiss him.
"Hey beautiful." Liam murmured in his 'I just woke up' voice. I laid on him as he caressed my cheek. I turned towards the alarm clock. 5:48.
"We should go surfing before everyone wakes up." I said.
"Sure." Liam started, "You look so adorable when you're excited." Liam said, grinning. I rolled my eyes and dragged him off the bed.
"You brought your wetsuit, right?" I asked.
"Yup." He answered. I gave him a thumbs-up.
"Meet me in the basement when you're changed." I said, walking out. I ran to my room and zipped right out in my wetsuit with a bikini under. I raced down to the basement and took the boards out of storage. I came out of the closet, boards under my arms, when Liam came walking down the stairs, running his hand through his hair. He looked up at me, smiling and giving me that look.
"My hair look ok?" He asked, pointing to it.
I paused.
"It always does." I said. He walked over and I handed him his board, a white background with a hibiscus flower that is all shades of blue. It's the same as mine but the flower is an assortment of different reds, pinks, and oranges.
"Ready?" He asked. I nodded and he grabbed my hand. We ran towards the rolling waves until we came to a stop at the edge of the water. Liam let go of my hand and felt the water with his foot.
"How is it?" I asked.
"A little cold." He said. I nodded.
"Number one rule of swimming, always feel the water before you jump in it." Liam stated, holding up one finger. I laughed and raised my eyebrow.
Liam suddenly broke, running as far in as he could before he jumped in. I followed, slightly behind him. We paddled until we came to a wave and dove under it. That happened a couple more times until Liam called out,"I think this one is good." He pointed to the fifteen-foot wave forming fifty yards in front of us. We turned around, watching the wave over our shoulders as it approached rapidly. It lifted the back end of my board so I hopped up on my board and swerved all the way back to the beach. I got up and brushed the sand off my board. I lifted my head to see Liam walking over to me, shaking his hair, releasing all the little water droplets. He looked so cute in that moment I just wanted to call him mine.
"That was a good run. Wanna go again?" He asked, out of breath.
"Yea, let's go." I said. We took off and repeated the pattern a couple more times until we found ourselves sitting on our boards, one hundred yards from shore.
"The ocean is so pretty this morning." I mentioned, swirled the water with my hand. Silence.
"So are you." LIam blurted. "You looked adorable this morning." He grinned.
"Pff, you were way cuter than me this morning." I admitted. He laughed and shook his head. More silence.
"Did you see that ollie I did back there?" Liam asked, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb.
"Oh yea, that was sick. I wish I could do that. All I can do is carve." I mentioned, wishing he would teach me.
"On our run back I could show you." He offered.
"Sounds good." I started. I checked my Apple Watch. 7:26. "We should head in." I finished.
"Alright, let's catch the next wave." Liam said. We turned to paddle a little farther out.
