"So......" Casey says, dragging out the 'o'. "School?"
She's being cautious, trying to see what mood I'm in. I smile at that.
"It was fine," I say. "Nerve-wracking, heart-pounding, blood pumping, adrenaline rushing, brain-frying, and handshaking, but fine. Jackson was there to show me the ropes, along with a girl I met, Scarlet. And, yes, her hair is as colorful as her name," I finish with a smile.
I watched as Casey relaxed a bit with every word I said.
"So all in all....?" She asks.
I think for a moment, then nod. "It was an ok day."
"Good," Casey says. "Does this mean that-"
"I'm going to stay at the high school for the year? It's too early to decide," I say, knowing exactly what she was about to say.
She gives me a small pout and I shake my head, smiling at how this adult is able to act like a child.

                                                                                  I kind of promised Jackson
that I would let him show
                                                                                  me around
😣 meanie
                                                                                   I'm sorry😖
haha it's ok! I was wondering                                                                                                                                   if you'd like to eat with us                                                                                                                           tomorrow?

                                                                                   That would be great! Your
                                                                                   friends as well?
of course! They're excited
to meet you!
                                                                                    Yay!

    "Who's that?" Casey asks.
"Scarlet," I say. "I'm gonna head upstairs."
    "To sleep?"
"Maybe," I answer. "I'm just feeling lazy."
"Mmhm. Now go, do whatever teenage things you do."
I walk to my room and close my door behind me before flopping onto my bed.
I open my laptop and pull up my emails, sorting through dance stuff, junk mail, spam mail, and such. One email makes me stop, though.
    ābati
    I discard the email quickly.
The last thing I need right now is an email from my father about how he doesn't approve of my life choices about dancing.
I put away my laptop, getting under my covers.
    I just wanna sleep.

     A vase shattered.
    "But ābati!"
"No! My sēti liji is not going fail. Dancers get no pay! They poor!"
    "But-"
The look of rage in his eyes became ten times more than it was mere seconds earlier.
    "I said no!"
She was done with his shit.
"Listen here! I am not asking for your permission. I leave tomorrow. You gave up all rights to be my father when you chose drugs over your family! I came to say goodbye! If you cared about my future, you would have been here two months ago. Your parental privileges have been revoked!"
    He sighs. "Candice-"
"No," She whispered. "I will not let you tell me I can't. All people have told me I can't, besides wenidimi. Goodbye."
His silence soon burst forth into a desperate sort of fury.
    "YOU ARE NOT MY DAUGHTER!"
She looked at him sadly, a single tear running down her cheek.
"And you were never my father."
    She shut the door.
