"This your room, New Kid?" Beverly Marsh asked Ben Hanscom, as he stood petrified, and in awe. Beverly Marsh was in his room. With only him. In his room. With him. And sure it was to work on an Econ assignment, but nonetheless, Ben was in a state of euphoria.

Beverly was wandering aimlessly around the room, observing his New Kids on The Block posters and diagrams of building designs. Ben felt his cheeks warm as she studied one with her eyes for a few moments.

"Ben.." She whispered softly. He hummed in response, taking a seat on the bed.

"This is beautiful," She pointed out the picture, "The structure and the design, holy shit."

"Hm, thanks," Ben said, hiding his ecstatic emotion with ease "Should we work on the Econ project?"

"Fuck Econ," Beverly chuckled, sitting cross legged across from Ben, "Tell me what's going on in that mind of your's, New Kid."

The only thing truly on Ben's mind was Bev. What began as a small high school crush, developed into a one sided love pandemic.

"Well.. Not much really," Ben sighed out.

"Okay.." Bev thought for a moment, "Who's on your mind?"

Ben's breath hitched as the red head looked into his eyes.

"N-Nobody," He managed to spit out.

"Mh, sure New Kid."

"How about you, Beverly?" Ben retaliated, small smile creeping onto his face.

"There is one guy," She chuckled.

Bill.

Ben loved Bill - and respected him all the same, but his heart ached whenever Beverly spoke fondly of him.

"Mh, Bill?" He said finally, looking up from the fingers he had been twiddling.

"Oh shit no," Bev laughed - much to Ben's relief, "Tozier told me him and Stan were getting on months ago and I've steered clear ever since."

Ben chuckled.

"Who then?"

Bev chuckled.

"Straight forward, aren't you New Kid?"

"Mh, just a bit."

Bev lent forward from her cross legged position and poked Ben's nose tenderly.

"Maybe if we finish our Econ shit you can find out."

Beverly sure was a feisty one. Ben heaved out a gargantuan sigh before agreeing and gathering his textbooks. What he didn't realise however, was the fact that the book he had given Bev to study with was full of drafts of his poem - especially written to her.

"Your hair is winter fire, January embers, my heart burns there too."

Beverly had held that postcard every night to her chest, the words flowing throw her brain and warming her heart.

"You write, New Kid?"

Ben's eyes widened.

"Hm? Sometimes, I guess."

"It's beautiful," Beverly said, standing up from the bed - book balanced in one hand and the other foraging in her pocket. She pulled out a small postcard, which Ben recognised immediately.

"Winter fire..?" Ben whispered, and Beverly's ears practically perked up.

"January embers," Bev replied, taking a step closer to Ben.

"My heart.."

"Burns there too," Beverly finished closing the gap between them, in a soft kiss. She smiled out of it - and watched as Ben's face faded from the bright maroon state it was in.

"You're beautiful," Ben said softly.
