I have always thought that every time you expect something to be good, that situation turns out to be bad. As when you wait weeks or months for an event to take place and once you are there, everything goes wrong and that day ends up being part of your list of the worst days of your life. But what can be do? Can we change those moments when they are happening? Can we change life?

Some might say that life is preprogrammed and therefore, unchangeable. That awful birthday, that catastrophic exam, that lost friendship or breakup was already planned by, what people call, destiny. Others postulate that we ourselves are responsible for our acts and that those disasters take place because of our actions.

I do believe in both positions. Most of the things we do have their own consequences which are there since the very beginning. However, we are so blind that we do not see them or we do, but we just try to ignore them as though that is going to make them disappear or something. I truly believe a great deal of moments we regret could have been very different if we had pondered and thought about them first.

On the other hand, there are things that happen just on the mere fact that they happen as when it is a sunny day but suddenly the sky is covered up with clouds and it starts to pour and you have not brought your umbrella and you arrive completely wet. Can you change that? Of course you can't. It simply happens. I know it is a really easy example but I think it clarifies what I am trying to say.

Notwithstanding, if I have to answer the question set out before, I would say yes. To some extent, we can change life. We can change parts that can, later on, make a big difference. Small decisions, as when we decide whether to arrive on time or five minutes later, matter. And one second can change all your life, even if it is insignificant for you. I know I am not the best example. I have made terrible decisions but as I have always said, we, humans, will always learn from them even if we commit them again (remember that were a bit ignorant sometimes).

However, I just want to highlight an important advice someone gave me once: 'think, reflect, look further before acting'. It is true that some movements are written by our destiny but most of our lives, believe it or not, are in our hands.
