Chapter 14 - The Great Performance
May 1, 1995. Monday, the First of May – or rather, the Philippine Labor Day, and the parents stayed at home for the holiday (What a day! Hehehe…) Anyway… Kris woke up after a session alone with his acoustic guitar, notebook and pen.
Wow! Another one! I wasn’t able to finish it though… but anyway… there’re a lot of things to be happy about…
As he went down the stairs, his Dad Tony, Angie and his Ninong Ed were already in the porch singing to the Bee Gees’ First Of May to celebrate… well… the holiday.
When I was small… and Christmas trees were tall… we used to laugh while others used to play…
He went outside the porch as well to greet Angie and his Ninong and to thank him as well.
“Good morning Dad, Tita Angie and Ninong Ed…”
“Hey Kris! You’ve had a good night’s sleep I can imagine”, said Ed.
“Yes!” Kris said, “Really… thanks Ninong…”
“Hey… don’t thank me”, Ed said, “Thank my boss! He has ties to a big broadcasting company. He’s been watching you guys for a while and when he watched the Music Bureau episode on Saturday, he said he just couldn’t let you pass anymore. He now calls BANDED, Little Empress, Fatale and Vipazz the Big Four hehehe… and by the way, he called me again last night and said that he’s planning to have your performance on May 14… in SM Southmall…”
“Whoa! Really?!” Kris said, “God! We can’t thank him enough now!! I gotta call the others!!”
“Robbie may already be on his way to the park”, said Ed, “Jackie asked him to buy something but I doubt he’ll go home at once hehehe…”
“Chip off the old block I must say, repa haha”, said Tony.
“And”, Angie said, “Kimiko may be in the park already with JC.”
“Okay…” Kris said, “I’ll call Nancy and then all the others.”
He did, and in an hour, the whole BANDED gang (JC wasn’t there as Angie thought) was in the park, very happy with Kris’ good news.
“In less than two weeks, you guys are going to have your own mini-concert”, said Nancy, “I’m so proud of you all…” Then, turning to Kris and sweetly… “Especially you…”
“EHEMMM!!!!” All of them said and then laughed, including Kris and Nancy.
After a while of idling, Paolo suddenly said, “Hey guys… you know I’ve been thinking… we should reward ourselves because of the good things that happened recently…”
“And we have all been busy for more than a month, starting right after school ended”, said Tina.
“Hmmm…” Kris said, “I know! A vacation! An out of town vacation!!”
And the nine all cheered and agreed, and then Pinky asked, “But where…?”
“Hmmm… good question…” said Kris.
“What the…?!” Robbie said, “You’re the one who suggested yet you don’t know!”
“But I thought we’re going to brainstorm about it…” said Kris.
“I know…” Ernie said from out of the blue.
They all looked at him, and suddenly remembered (if they’ve really forgotten) that Ernie comes from a really rich family, and may know (or own) a summer location or two (or more).
