Chapter 2

"Kitty?" Voki came into my ward, his head still bandaged. As my injuries were mostly near my legs, I am still having trouble walking. "Hey, Voki." Yoru looked up and purred from the foot of my bed.

"How are you feeling?" Voki stroked Yoru's head as he sat down next to my bed. "Bored." Even though I am quite convinced that I have healed up enough, the nurse is still not letting me go until tomorrow. They are worried about any after-effects from the explosion, as the whole incident itself is quite shocking for actually taking place within the grounds of Lastria Academy. As one of the most renowned magic academy in the land, it is obvious that their security measures will be off the top, as they house most of the noble and royalty students. For such a security breach to happen is unheard of.

"I bet you are, no ancient spell books to decode~ no physical training~" "Oh shut up Voki... as if you are any better." He grinned and said, "Well but I am, I am getting discharged today anyway." I rolled my eyes at him while Yoru swing his tail, watching me gleefully. I laughed a little and noticed Voki looking at Yoru, with a thoughtful look in his eyes.

"His grown onto you huh?" Slowly he stroked Yoru's fur again, as Yoru purred. "Yeah... he won't leave my side. The staff tried to ask him to move, he was quite upset." Joselina told me that Yoru tried to attack the staff that wanted to separate us when I was admitted. Eventually, they let him stay to avoid crossing paths with an angry ancient creature.

"You know, it's quite rare for such a proud creature to submit to a mage so easily, let alone to us orphans. Even when I was getting your gift, I didn't expect to find him. He came to me if you must say." Yoru blinked his eyes, and Voki smiled and waved at me. "Anyway gotta go, visiting hours are ending so better make a move~ Pick you up tomorrow kay!"

"Sure, see you tomorrow." "See you~" Before he walked out, he stopped and turned around "Oh yeah, remember to tell me what happened with the Royal Mages."

I slightly frowned, the Royal Mages suddenly barging into my life is a whole different situation...

"You are now under the protection of the Royal Mages." The officer looked at me sternly, his piercing eyes lingering between me and Yoru. From his appearance, the officer seems to be a tiger hybrid, and from the reaction of the other mages, he must be quite high ranking. But...

"What do you mean? Am I arrested or something?" It might be because Voki and I were the only ones there, and they suspect us for it.

"No, as we said, we are now responsible for your safety and wellbeing under the orders of the High Supreme Council. They have deemed you to be of utmost importance. Your very existence must be protected for the tides of history to turn in our favors."

"...Huh?" I don't understand now. My very existence? "I think you got the wrong person... I'm just an orphan abandoned on the streets, how can my very existence be of utmost importance? Is this some kind of a prank?"

"No, this is not a prank, Miss Kuro. One of the Arcana holders has unfolded a very important message of your past. You are required to meet with her after you are discharged. She will be able to shed light upon your questions." The officer then took off his hat... and bowed! "In the meantime, we of the Royal Mages will be at your service. My name is Ferox, I am the Leader of Squad A2."

I panicked and quickly asked them to stop bowing, as it is a big scandal if someone found out the Royal Mages bowed to me...

"So... how is this going to work? Are you guys going to confine me or something?" I laid back onto my pillow, as my body still aches all over. Ferox continued to study Yoru with a questionable look, before continuing "No that will be unnecessary at the moment while looking at the situations now. I believe to have you confined will be too much hassle, as we were informed with your unruly behavior in the academy. Instead, we will assign our Mages as your bodyguards. You can carry out your daily life routine without any problems as long as we have our eyes on you." I cringed at the term 'unruly behavior', and Ferox went on. "We will also enforce your house with more protective spells and barriers to keep out any unwanted guests. You can also choose to move to one of our designated safe houses. Furthermore, we will be discussing extra measures with the academy for security purposes."
