Garte growled out as he yanked the younger Ro'Meave inside, slamming the door shut and working on the bolts and locks. "Why the hell were you out!? It's the dead of night. Did you not hear those beasts howling!" He snarled to his son, the only one of them to inherit their mothers raven locks.

Zane huffed, looking away to avoid his father's disapproving eyes. He removed his hood, adjusting his mask with a low grumble. "Gene didn't return home by nightfall. I couldn't stay alone. That's practically begging those things to skin me and feast on my innards" he snapped back, walking towards his father's bedroom so he could set down his things.

Garte's room was scattered with many different books and journals, the shelves cluttered and papers strewn about the walls and floor.

"Still, you should have tried to go to the closest neighbor. Traveling halfway across the town to my house was utterly foolish" Garte sighed, stepping into the room as well.

Zane merely rolled his eyes, letting his cloak fall to the ground, dropping his bag as well. Sorry was obvious one what little could be seen of his face. He was beyond bothered by the fact that his partner hadn't returned home as he always did.

Gene had been with him for years, ever since he'd moved to the town in his teens. They'd gotten into trouble countless times and bonded over what they did. After a while they had finally started a relationship, but they knew they could be separated at any point in time.

That was a risk everyone took. Being in a relationship with someone within the town was hard to do. They could be killed off within the night or lynched by other villagers. Or, they could turn out to be a killer or werewolf. There were just too many risks. Still, people found love where they could.

"I... I can't sleep like this, dammit! I know what he is. He has no value to the werewolves dead or alive, but they might just kill him anyways" Zane finally said, falling back onto the bed.

Garte shook his head, going to sit beside of his son. "You just have to trust that he's able to stay safe. Maybe he just lodged with someone else for the night when he saw that he didn't have time to get back. Don't automatically assume that he's going to become puppy chow" he assured, working to unbutton the male's shirt. He pulled it off, folding it up after taking off Zane's shoes as well, with a little grumble of protest from said male of course.

Garte chuckled and stood, setting the items aside as he moved his son, covering him with the blanket before closing the curtains on the window. "I'll stay with you, Zuzu. Just try to rest. You have important duties to the town. You'll have to meet with Aaron as scheduled, and you know he doesn't like it when you're too tired to focus" he said softly, lying down while giving Zane most of the room.

Zane gave a groan and rolled over to face his father, looking him in the eyes. After a moment, he shifted closer and let the man hold him. Physical contact wasn't something he liked, but he needed someone right now despite how calm and rude he seemed on the outside.

Slowly, they both managed to drift off into a relatively restless but long sleep.

Hiya! I know this isn't very long but I plan on making future chapters longer. This was sort of a sneak peek I guess? Maybe something to get you intrigued. Idk.
Still, I hoped you like what little I managed to write!
