Zane looked mortified as he started into the whirling smoke, frozen in place. This wasn't right. Gene couldn't be a wolf...
Aaron quickly swatted the smoke away, already regretted his choice to look into Gene. Aphmau looked rather nervous as well.
Zane's look of horror soon turned into one of rage. He slammed his fist into the ground and got up, already pacing around the room.
"This can't be right. It can't! Gene told me what he was. He showed me the proof. Someone is screwing around here!" He snapped, trying to keep himself from panicking.
Now that Aaron's search had revealed that Gene was in fact a wolf, they had to lynch him. Not only for the safety of the town but for Zane's safety, even if killing him around ruin the poor Ro'Meave.
Aphmau stepped up and grabbed Zane's wrist, making him stop and look down at her. He exhaled a shaky breath and dropped down onto the couch, dropping his head into his hands.
"Gene is the Fool. That guy that went around trying to get himself hung. He isn't Some beast, I swear! He has been with me ever night of every attack except for last night" he huffed, looking up at his friend with a pleading gaze. He didn't want Gene to die, not ever. He was the first person that he fell in love with, the only person in fact.
Katelyn heaved a sigh and pushed off the wall, making her way over. She didn't like Zane, but she hated seeing him so distraught.
"Zane, I... I'll look into this claim and see if I can figure more out. I'll ask his neighbors. I didn't see a few of them there at the gathering, surly they heard or saw something that could prove he's innocent" She said quietly, causing Zane to look up at her.
He gave a slight nod, looking back down at his lap. "Thank you, Katelyn. I appreciate it" he responded softly.
Katelyn offered him a faint smile before she headed out, making her way to the part of town Sasha lived in. There weren't many folks around there besides a few more quiet people.
She did visit occasionally because of Kawaii~chan but other than that, she never really ventured around there.
Katelyn glanced at the few houses littered on either end of the path, all cozy little things that usually singles stayed in, or folks that didn't like the hustle and bustle of the main part of town. It was rather peaceful and quiet around those parts.
She made her way up a set of stairs leading to Sasha's house, someone having already fixed her up with a new door it seemed.
She rapped her knuckles against the door, only having to wait a few seconds for an answer. The lavender haired woman peeked through the window before coming to open the door, giving the sheriff a faint smile before letting her in.
It seemed that she was still cleaning up from the events of the previous night, a broom in her hands which she set aside as she took a seat on the bed.
"What brings you here, Sheriff? Garroth already questioned me while he was patching Gene up" she mused, gingerly playing with her hair. She seemed a little on edge, definitely hiding something in Katelyn's eyes.
She shut the door behind her, leaning against it and crossing her arms over her chest.
"I've come to ask you some more questions. I want a specific reason coming from you as to why Gene may or may not be what Ein claimed" she simply stated, wanting to get right to the point.
Something didn't feel right about how Sasha was acting and she wanted to find out why.
"Me and Gene were sharing a bed all night, we were having a conversation about today's lynching when that... thing broke in. It yanked him up and bit him, but ran off right after. This is everything I've already said" she sighed out, leaning back on her hands and she turned her gaze towards the window.
Katelyn rose a brow, quiet for a moment. Some parts of that may be true, but something still didn't sound right.
"Cut the bullshit, Sasha. If you don't tell me the truth, I'll make sure that you take Gene's place if you don't give me something more believable than just sleeping" she hissed, glaring at the woman.
Sasha flinched and gripped at the sheets, chewing on her bottom lip as she debated with herself.
"Just... please, don't tell this to anyone else, please. Especially not Zane" she murmured after a few seconds.
Katelyn tilted her head, walking over so she was directly in front of her now, watching her expression as she began to speak once more.
"Me and Gene were... we've been having sex off and on for a few months now. Sometimes he stops by here and spends the night and then he sleeps with me. Last night was one of those nights and right as we had finished, that monster burst in and yanked him off of me. It tore into his shoulder and when it saw me, it looked terrified. It dropped Gene and bolted, running into the forest" Sasha explained quietly.
She was ashamed with herself. She knew that Gene was in a relationship with Zane. Her and Zenix had recently split up and had been seeking out someone to get off with. It just so happened that Gene wanted to get it on because Zane had been busy at the time, but then it had become a regular thing.
Katelyn could tell that this was the truth, but she wasn't sure how she was going to tell Aphmau. She knew that she would tell Zane immediately and that would still leave him if a pretty bad position with Gene.
She sighed and stepped away, not even responding as she left the house. She wanted to make sure of this.
She headed to the house across the path, knocking at the door and waiting for a response. A taller, green haired male answered shyly, perking up at the sight of the sheriff.
He let her in, a smile appearing in his lips as he greeted her. "Oh, Katelyn. What brings you here?" Daniel asked, shutting the door behind her.
She turned to look at him, only to notice that he looked pretty banged up. A busted lip, bandages around his shoulder and neck along with a few different bandages covering smaller cuts. What had happened!?
Daniel wasn't the type to get into fights, that much she knew.
She tried to hold off on asking about that, wanting to remain on the task at hand.
"Have you noticed anything going on between Gene and Sasha?" She asked bluntly, making Daniel tense a little at the pointed question. He had hoped not to talk about such a thing.
He looked down, playing with his fingers.
"Y... yes ma'am. Last night I heard some... noises and every time he visits her, I hear those noises" he answered shyly, but Katelyn smiled at him.
She cupped his cheek and rubbed her thumb along it, wanting reassuring the sweet man that he hadn't done anything wrong.
She never really talked to Daniel, but she knew that he was very sweet and honest when it came to most things. Not to mention, he was pretty adorable by anyone's standards.
"Thank you, Daniel. I'll be going now. Rest up and try to stay out of trouble" she hummed before pulling away, earning a nod from the male as she left.
He felt guilty, more so than he usually did. But, he didn't want to die just yet.

Howdy! Enjoy another chapter while they're still coming. I appreciate any feedback as long as it isn't aggressive or like super negative.
