In which Freya sulks & has an idea that is equally awful and brilliant

Freya kicked a rock. Freya did not normally kick rocks, but then again Freya did not normally go up to the Commander and beg that he listen to her.

Although the Commander did not normally listen to her, so she supposed some order was still in the galaxy.

From what Freya has seen of the galaxy, there wasn't much order at all. That- order, or lack thereof, and other such nonsense- was why she and thousands others were here in the first place.

Long ago by your standards, Freya's people, the Dopomolians, had done something most terrible. The Dopomolians was one of the most advanced civilizations, with weapons and technology humans could only dream of- as well as a special breed of arrogance that not even Earth's politicians could top off. Having curiosity, arrogance, and resources were quite a dangerous combination, and so as a result, Project Civil was born.

The aim of this particular experiment was to discover how other species reacted to danger and failure, and why they were so dreadfully behind the Dopomolians. So five planets were marked, and the Dopomolians toyed- rather, experimented- on them- a virus here, meteorite there, you know, the works.

One thing the Dopomolians didn't count on was the Judge. The Judge was in charge of ensuring fairness and settling disputes between various species (therefore taking the judge-y est form possible- a cat) and she was absolutely livid when she found out.

And so, the Dopomolians were sent to protect and guide the five planets they had once toyed with, to teach them empathy, compassion, restore order and whatnot. Needless to say, most Dopomolians weren't very happy then, and aren't very happy now, a thousand years later.

Freya, on the other hand, liked the humans. She liked how they said 'ow' when they hadn't been hurt yet, or adopted other species into their family units. Freya and her former team had been pretty sure they noticed the obvious difference, but humans hadn't noticed aliens observing them for hundreds of years, so their skills were....questionable.

Nevertheless, Freya hated seeing them suffer, even if they would get over it. It was just so sad!

And Easton wouldn't do anything about it! The more Freya thought, the angrier she got. She had specialized in humanology for the last three hundred years. She knew these things. And he- the only one powerful enough to give her a grant to Earth- would just sit and watch. Just like he'd watched through the wars in the Middle East, Twilight, Trump's election, and so many more.

She had lost her job and her silver coat caring too much. But this wasn't like that! She was wiser, more experienced, and more stubborn. That has to be a good thing, right? Freya thought desperately.

"Hey!" Freya looked up, startled, to see a woman about her age standing there. She was wearing a leather jacket under her silver coat, which seemed quite unnecessary to Freya, but whatever. Her hair was short and black, her ear covered in studs and rings, and....oh. Her leather jacket, impractical as it may be, was covered in silver badge after silver badge, leading up to a golden one.

This was special field agent Alex T'Nadea, the legend. This woman in front of her had discovered the Theory of Everything, the theory that states humans will try to be absolutely everything to everyone they can, regardless of the pain it puts them in. And she was talking to Freya!

"Oh-um, hi," Freya said breathlessly. All the pouting in her had fled at the sound of Alex's combat boots.

"Hey," Alex repeated. "You're in my spot."

"Your-your spot," Freya verified, looking around at the bench she was sitting on, in the middle of the long bridge between the main building and Special Intell. "This is your spot."

"Yes." Alex sighed, as if she was talking to a teenager. (Freya quite liked researching teenagers) "That's where I normally sit."

"Oh," Freya said again. "Well, alright then."

Very conscious of Alex's eyes on her, Freya slowly stood up. She could hear the rustling of Alex's clothes as she sat. Freya's footsteps echoed off the golden bridge, where she had just met Alex T'Nadea!

Suddenly, Freya stopped, and a slow grin spread across her face as an idea struck her.

Maybe Easton wasn't the only one that could do something.......
