Dear Ladybug,' Adrien reads out in his head, 'your smile is the reason I wake up in the mornings.' He glances over his shoulder, only seeing a young freshman girl. He turns back quietly, he turns back to his paper and continues 'From Cat Noir.' He folds the paper up, carefully tucks it into an envelope and slides it under the door, silently walks down the hallway, and tries to keep his heart from beating too fast.

Here are the facts:

Adrien's in love with his best friend.

She doesn't know it yet.

He writes her anonymous letters every week.

When Adrien arrives at Marinette's dorm, she's fiddling with her keys attempting to open the lock. "Another party?" Adrien smiles as she jumps and glares at him. "Scared you?"

"Shut up," Marinette says, rubbing her eyes. "It's way too early for sneaking up on people."

Adrien swallows thickly, offering up his coffee. "Here."

"It's yours." She waves him off but gives him a quick greeting hug. "Why are you up so early?"

"Uh, wasn't sleeping well. Thought it'd be better to just get up and face the day." Lie, lie, lie, Adrien thinks. He wakes up early every other Monday morning so that he can be there when she wakes up.

"You aren't sleeping well?" Marinette's brow dips in concern, and she reaches up to press her hand against his forehead, but he bats her away with a laugh.

"I'm fine," he insists. And he is, mostly, he just wishes Marinette could understand the depth of every fond look he gives her; wishes she could see the way his hand constantly twitches with the want to find it's way to hers. Sometimes, Adrien thinks, averting his eyes, looking at her hurts. In a good way.

"You sure?"

"Positive."

"Wanna watch a movie while I do some design homework?"

Adrien grins. "You know me so well."

"Yeah, yeah," Marinette giggles, rolling her eyes, and Adrien pretends that her smile is full of love for him rather than falling just short.
