One week later, Marinette's knocking on Adrien's door, a notebook tucked underneath her arm and a croissant in her hand. "Peace offering for interrupting whatever thing you're doing right now," Marinette says, smiling tightly.

"Sleeping," Adrien mumbles, inwardly sighing and outwardly not having enough strength to. So it seems college is more physically draining than he thought.

Marinette reaches up and squeezes his shoulder, and Adrien closes his eyes—because he's tired. Not because he's memorizing the feeling. "Can I come in?"

Adrien laughs a little, shaking his head, his blonde hair falling into his eyes. "Always."

It takes two hours for Marinette to get around to her point, but it happens.

"I think I have a secret admirer," Marinette blurts, halfway through Legally Blonde.

Adrien jumps a little and tries to inject some humor, "Yeah? Like in grade school"

Marinette shuffles, accidentally knocking her notebook off of her lap. She stares at it. "No. Like someone is sending me love letters every week."

"What do they say." Adrien attempting to keep his focus on fabulously blonde Elle Wood rather than the dark-haired beauty next to him.

"Well, they're addressing 'Ladybug'," she discloses, then gestures to her ladybug earrings which she always wore. "Meaning they've seen me like seen me."

"Intriguing."

"I just don't understand—if it is me—then... why?"

"Why?" He huffs out a laugh, hoping he doesn't sound as hysterical as he feels. "Marinette, you're the human embodiment of everything a boy in his right mind wants." And—well, that wasn't supposed to come out, exactly.

Marinette doesn't seem to notice or call him out and Adrien is equal parts relieved as he is exasperated. "Maybe, I guess. But most guys would just talk to me." She tucks her knees up to her chest and sighs. "This feels like something from a movie."

"Maybe that inspired him," Adrien says, trying for casual as he shrugs and reaches for the remote. "As long as everything he's saying is nice."

Marinette hums in response, but her eyes aren't directed on him—and Adrien realizes that's the problem. It's always been the problem.

Biting the edge of his tongue, he rewinds the past five minutes of the movie.
