The Beginning of the End

Chaeyoung and Chanyeol has been dating for months now, both trying to balance their own talents, relationship and the case they're trying to solve, I mean, trying to help Mr. Kang with.

"Are you alright, Chan?" She laid a hand on his shoulder, he looked stressed as fuck.
"I'm okay.." He said before cracking his knuckles.
"Yah, tell me the truth or I'll actually break your knuckles." Chanyeol had just received a call from Mr. Kang, he had been kidnapped by the gang, threatening him that if they don't get Chaeyoung, they'll bombard the whole school to obtain the money they hold. Giving Mr. Kang the idea that there is no way out of it, other than sacrifice Chaeyoung. Even though she seemed brave enough to sacrifice herself, Chanyeol wasn't ready to give her up, not after hurting her once before.

"What would you do if I were in danger?" He randomly asked Chaeyoung, who just ended up choking on her coffee.
"Chanyeol?! What are you talking about?!" She was worried.
"I'm serious Chaeng. Just answer the question." He gulped, seriously not ready for whatever was to come out from her mouth.
"Serious huh..." She looked away, standing up from his table which she sat on.

Chanyeol's POV
She laid down on my bed, "I'd sacrifice myself." It's almost as if she was the boy in the relationship. I should be the one taken away, not her, and No, I won't let that happen, and I'm not letting those people get away with it just like that. I laid right next to her on the bed as she laid her head on my chest. "I love you, Chaeyoung..." I said as I shed a tear. "What's wrong with you?" She was extraordinarily worried, but how was I going to prepare her for the day when they're going to take her away? What could I do? Even Mr. Kang himself was kidnapped.

Rooftop—Mr. Kang's condominium
Today is the day, that I'll forever regret. "Chanyeolssi, where are you taking me?" She asked, my angry and regretful expression could be obviously seen as she stared at me intently. "So this is the day huh." She replied as soon as we reached our destination.

The people from the gang finally showed up as I held Chaeyoung's hand tightly with the rest of our friends, tied up on a post along with Mr. Kang. I had no choice, but to surrender. It was hopeless, the rain poured heavily, making her sick. "Chanyeol..." She whispered, "If this is the end, then so be it." She walked forward, stepping closer to Jeon Jungkook, who smirked.

"Just shoot me. I can't live like this anymore, I can't live to see people that I love risk their lives just to protect me, I can't live to see my boyfriend struggling each day, fearing for this day to come. Do it." Jungkook nodded at the other members as I kneeled down, my heart shattered into pieces, I can't believe this is happening. I couldn't let go, I couldn't imagine my life without Roseanne Park.. It was as if I wanted to die with her. "Chanyeolssi... You've done a pretty good job protecting her. Now, I think, if we could all agree to this guys, if we kill her, we'll free your friends.

If we spare her, you're dead meat." He said while pointing his gun at the said options. "You decide." Min Yoongi stood next to me as Jackson Wang kicked the back of Chaeyoung's knees, making her kneel as he held her hands tight. I looked at her with tears streaming down, and she felt the same, she nodded at me and closed her eyes, before mouthing "I Love You." for the last time before I said "Kill her..." While closing my eyes, fearing to see how they'll do it.

I heard the gunshot fire off as I yelled, covered my face and laid down on the ground. The policemen quickly responded just right after the gang was untying our friends, Min Yoongi and the rest started making faces at the helicopter and making fun of their uniforms like a bunch of mentally ill arseholes. "Chaeyoung-ah!" I yelled once I ran to her body, now drenched in blood as she held my cheek. "I told you... I'd sacrifice my-myself for you..." She smiled one last time before she fell unconscious, the policemen took her from me.

"No... No! No!" I couldn't stop myself from crying, how could I have done that? My friends went over to me and embraced me.

Kang Sonji's POV
February 14th, 2021
Mr. Kang's Office
10:24AM
"Chanyeolssi, she wanted that for you, she wanted that for us." I spoke to him before leaving for a press conference. I could tell, this young Incheon University graduate still hasn't moved on from the death of his own girlfriend. "You have brought justice to us all, and I'm sure that Chaeyoung would have been proud of you. Everybody, they all look up at you as their hero. Can you believe it? You are considered as Incheon, South Korea's youngest detective." I shed a tear, not being able to speak for myself.

"It's alright, kid. I know you're still struggling to keep yourself together after the events of last year. Things will never be easy for you, but if you work hard and focus, you will truly heal from this." Mr. Kang's words sunk in deeply into my heart, I have been living with him ever since that day when Chaeyoung died, I just kept crying and crying for weeks, and months, and even up to this day, I've still been crying over her. "I think.. I will never be the same." I replied, in a cold tone.

"You'll be okay." He responded as I only nodded in thank you. "It's almost 11, we must go." He held my hand on the way to the parking lot where we drove to the press conference.
"It's okay to cry there, alright? The world loves you anyway." He chuckled and I only let out a sigh.
"Come on, Chanyeol. I have never seen a smile come out of your face ever since we first met." He tried to cheer me up. Just thinking about Chaeyoung, I know she wouldn't like it that I'm still crying. She wanted to sacrifice herself for me, and I let her. I owe this to her, I owe my life to her, so I'll just have to smile in the thought of her as I go on in life.

"I'm sorry, Hyung." I sent him a small smile as he continued to joke around, my laughter finally making its way out of my mouth once again after a year of sadness.
"I'm sure Chaeyoung is happy that you're finally laughing now." I smiled even more at the thought of Chaeyoung's smile. We went out and finally entered the press conference that was held after our friends spoke up about the eventful things that happened back at Incheon University.

"Chaeyoung... Was the most wonderful girl I've ever met. And on that night when I was given two options, to spare or to kill... I asked them to kill her, because the day before, I asked her what she would do if I were in danger.... She responded as if she was so eager to sacrifice herself for me. And I will always remember her as the strongest woman I know." I then continued to cry afterwards.

Now that I am a detective, I work along with my partner, Sheriff Kang Sonji. Working hand-in-hand as I always remember Chaeyoung in my heart. I decided that I must never love again, being married to my job was now, I could say, pretty easy for me. I know that Chaeyoung did all those things for her friends, she was a really beautiful person with a big heart, and I will always cherish those memories.

She taught me how to love, and now I knew what it meant to love someone to the point where you would sacrifice yourself for your loved ones. The least thing I have to remember is the mistakes I have done to her, I will always think of her as my guardian angel. Wherever she may be at this very moment, I'm sure that she would be very proud of my successes.
