"What–What the hell is going on here?" I barely managed to ask, feeling some kind of fear taking over my whole body.
"Just get on your knees, Jaein." Taeyang said, not even moving his eyes from the target. "I don't want to hurt you, but I will if you try to do anything to stop me. I don't even know how you escaped, but it's not important anymore. The only thing that is important right now is that Kim Inseong has to die."
"What the hell are you talking about, Taeyang?" I asked, but I still obeyed him and got on my knees. "I didn't escape from anywhere. And put that gun down before you do something that you'll regret later, please."
I couldn't see Inseong's face, but I was sure that he was scared, too. Was he expecting this? Because I surely was not. And judging from Youngkyun's worried expression, he wasn't expecting it either. Seokwoo, on the other hand, just stood there on his knees and watched this whole situation with a calm face.
"You don't understand." Taeyang kept explaining his crazy behavior. "He has to die. You really think that I want to do it? Hell no! But sometimes in life, we have to do bad things if we want to stay on top. That's why the top is pretty lonely most of the time."
"On top of what? Wake the hell up, Taeyang, for God's sake, or else you're gonna get all of us in trouble, especially yourself! Do you really need that? What has Inseong even done to you?" I kept trying to buy us some time, although I didn't even know for what.
"He didn't do anything to me, to be honest. But you see, my family owns a huge company as well and the fact that Inseong is going to inherit his father's business is a threat to us. So no, I don't really want to kill him, but it was an order from my father, and for for the sake of our future, that order must be completed." He said, pushing Inseong to lie on the ground, and then pressing his chest with the heel of his shoe.
"No!" I screamed, but then I remembered something. One sentence that I already heard before.
"It'll al be done by the time this expedition is finished. You'll get what you want."
That was the reason for my sudden feeling of déja vu on the hotel balcony. I was there before just a couple of nights before. It was the night when I saw Taeyang talking on the phone with someone. The night when I lost my memory.
"So, it's true, then." I said, desperately trying to distract him. "The man you were talking to over the phone that night. It was your father, wasn't it?"
"You... You weren't supposed to hear that conversation." He said quietly.
"Then how come I wasn't able to remember all this time? What have you done to me?"
Taeyang moved his gaze from the target only for a brief second so he could look me in the eyes. He took a deep breath, and then he finally spoke.
"I think it's time for you to shut your mouth, Jaein, unless you want to end up like The Prince of Korea here under my shoe."
"Oh really?" Inseong finally spoke, caughing from the pressure that was made on his chest. "Then why don't you shoot me already, you introverted coward?"
"Oh, so I'm the inroverted one? We'll see how friendly you'll be with the bullet in your head." Taeyang said calmly, putting his index finger on the trigger.
Inseong closed his eyes, and so did I. But after a few seconds of silence, I opened them again, only to confirm my theory.
Taeyang was hesitating.
He really wasn't capable of commiting a murder.
But still, that didn't stop someone else from giving it a try.
