Chapter 22

Britt POV

Toya just told me Trina has been lying since we were kids about Rashid. And all because of a guy that treated you like a hoe? Seriously Trina? We showed this girl so much loyalty and friendship when nobody wanted to fuck with her fat ass and she does nothing but stab us in the back. Toya said she'll fuck her up and I'll be right there cheering her on.

Xavier: Wyd ma

Britt: About to go in the store, want somethin?

Xavier: Oreos!!! :D

I laughed. This boy is so childish when it comes to HIS oreos. I remember I stole a few and he chased me all over the apartment. I wish our relationship would go back to those days where we played around a lot. Every night would be a different movie night. He would surprise me with gifts or we'd go out a lot. Now it's just me alone in the apartment and Xavier out doing things for Rashid. I grabbed the stuff I needed and got to my car. I had just closed my trunk when I felt someone grip my hair and slammed my head on the car. I screamed and kicked.

"Shut the hell up." I felt something poke my back. The person dragged me to the driver side of the car and out of view of other people. He had the gun to my stomach now an pressing against me. "Scream and I shoot you, got me?" I nodded fast. "Your boyfriend is in a lot of debt. We gave him  a friendly warning and he's yet to pay us back. Deliver this message for me. Pay up or die. To let him know how serious we are, here's another warning." He punched me in my face repeatedly before I blacked out.

Xavier POV

"Yeah?" I answered my ringing phone.

"Aye Britt's in the hospital," Rashid said.

"What? The fuck is she doing in the hospital?"

"She said something about a guy coming out the wood work and assaulted her. I'm about to take Toya home and then meet me at the trapp got me?"

"Yeah yeah okay." I hung up and ran out to my car. Someone touched my girl? Shit man I hope it ain't gotta do with this debt man. I tried so hard to avoid getting Britt invovled and having her find out about what I really do at night. I was at the hospital in less than fifteen minutes. I parked in the emergency drop off area and ran up to the nurse station. "Brittney Grimes?"

"Room 206." I took off looking for her room.

"Britt?" she was in a sitting position with her parents sitting on the other side of her. They were shooting me death daggers. "Are you okay?"

"Does it look like she's okay? Look at her face. This is all your fault," her mother looked ready to kill my ass. "This would've never happened if she didn't get involved with a kid like you. All you thugs are nothing but trouble."

"Mom! Can you get out please? I said I was good okay?"

"You're not good," her step dad said. "Look where you end up for messing with this screw up."

"For one, you ain't my father so you can butt out. This is MY life and MY decisions. I asked both of y'all nicely to leave and right now you're wearing my patience very thin here. Leave and if I want you I'll call you."

"You're so ungrateful. Better yet, don't call at all. When this dumbass get you killed I will not be at your funeral crying for YOUR dumb decisions. I'm doing what a mother's supposed to do and protect my child. Just fuck it. You are no child of mine for being this stupid." They stormed out.

"Britt-" she held her hand up. She looked mad as hell.

"I'm going to ask you this one time and one time only, just what in the hell did you do?"

Britt POV

Hearing my mom say that hurt me but I didn't have time to worry about her and her hormones. I'm pissed off right now. I didn't tell Toya or Rashid or even my parents that Xavier really is the reason why some random nigga beat on me. I need to hear his side of things.

"Britt it's not that simple-"

"Xavier stop fuckin lying!" I didn't mean to yell but I can't help it. Xavier has been lying to me and even while I'm in the hospital he's lying to me. One thing I can't stand is a liar. They get no love from me. "Tell me the truth right now! What the hell did you do?" I stared him down. 

"It's just...some mess I got into."

"Seriously? You call me your future wife and yet you won't tell me what the hell is going on? If you loved me you would tell me just what the hell is going on. I'm going to ask you this again and you bet not fucking lie to me. What debt are you in?" He wouldn't look at me. He didn't say anything. I felt the tears welling up inside. "Fine," my voice cracked. On a chain necklace was a ring he gave me. It was supposed to be a symbol of our love. Our technical 'engagement ring' he gave me in our junior year. After high school we were supposed to get married some time after high school maybe after a few years in college. 

"Britt don't-"

I held my hand up. "I hope this secret you have is worth it. I'm done begging you to open up to me and be honest. Truth be told, I just can't trust you and you obviously can't trust me. I'd rather be in no relationship then a trustless one." I put the necklace on the little night stand next to the hospital bed and just turned my back to him. I heard the jingling of the necklace and the door closing. I sobbed violently. The last thing I ever thought was my relationship crashing and burning.
