Chapter 21: The Secrets

Mr. Yeon's heart pounded in his chest as he approached Hyusuk's office. The news he had to deliver was a bitter pill, one he knew his boss wouldn't swallow easily. But silence was not an option. Hyusuk's wrath, if left unchecked, would be far more unbearable.

He rapped his knuckles against the door, hoping the sound would penetrate the cacophony within. "Boss," he called out, his voice barely a whisper.

"What?" Hyusuk's gruff voice rumbled from within, a clear indication that he had been interrupted in the midst of something unpleasant.

"I-I have something important to tell you, boss," Mr. Yeon stammered, his voice trembling. "B-but if you're busy, I think it could wait." He desperately hoped to avoid the consequences of his impending revelation.

"What is it about?" Hyusuk's voice remained unyielding, the door still firmly shut.

"It's about Byeon Haesoo, boss," Mr. Yeon managed to utter, struggling to control his stutter.

The door creaked open, revealing a young woman, her presence a testament to Hyusuk's penchant for indulging in fleeting pleasures. As she exited, Mr. Yeon took it as a signal to enter.

"That better be important, or else you know what will happen to you," Hyusuk warned, his voice laced with a chilling threat.

"I looked for Haesoo, as you instructed, but he was nowhere to be found," Mr. Yeon reported, his voice barely above a murmur. "As I tried to track down his number, I couldn't find him."

"What did you say?" Hyusuk thundered, slamming his fist on the table, causing Mr. Yeon to flinch in fear.

"I've been keeping an eye on him, boss, trust me," Mr. Yeon said, his head bowed in submission. "But he vanished after you paid him. I-I think he betrayed us."

"That can't be true," Hyusuk retorted, his voice laced with disbelief. "I've thoroughly vetted him, and I see no flaws in him. I'm sure he was a trustworthy person. Did you check him properly?"

"I-I did, boss, but when I checked the CCTV footage, there was no sign of him," Mr. Yeon explained, his voice barely audible.

"They've got me," Hyusuk muttered, clenching his fist in frustration. "Check his place and his hideout right away. They must have left some evidence of his disappearance or a clue to his death."

"Yes, boss," Mr. Yeon bowed his head and turned to leave.

"Also, you better find the traitor lurking around this company," Hyusuk ordered, his voice steely. "They must have someone spying on us. Do you understand?"

"I understand, boss," Mr. Yeon replied, his voice a mere whisper. He then left the office, his mind racing with the daunting task ahead.

"Ugh, it's so tiring," Jeongguk groaned, stretching his neck as they arrived back at the mansion.

"You're just exaggerating," Taehyung responded, loosening his necktie and heading towards the kitchen for a refreshing drink.

"I racked my brain just to follow whatever those old men were saying; it's difficult, you know," Jeongguk complained, rolling his eyes.

"Well, at least you had a brain," Taehyung retorted playfully, taking a long gulp of cold water.

"You're just trying to distract me to forget what you just promised, didn't you?" Jeongguk teased, standing beside Taehyung, leaning against the counter.

Taehyung choked on his water, coughing violently.

"I'll go take a quick shower," Taehyung excused himself, quickly retreating upstairs.

"Don't worry, I can wait until you're ready," Jeongguk chuckled, watching Taehyung disappear.

Taehyung simply flipped him with his middle finger before disappearing into the bathroom. Meanwhile, Jeongguk made his way to Jungkook's office, a specific book in mind. As he pulled it out, the shelf slid open, revealing a hidden room.

This room was a source of annoyance for Jeongguk, but he had no time for such trivial matters now. Something was bothering him, and he needed answers.

He flicked on the monitor, his face, identical to Jungkook's, appearing on the screen near the ceiling. As he listened to the recording, a shiver ran down his spine, and a smirk curled his lips.

"This bastard..." he muttered, clenching his fist as he watched Jungkook relaying information.

 -----

"Where have you been?" Taehyung asked Jeongguk, drying his hair with a towel and wearing a white robe as he descended the stairs.

"What happened?" Taehyung realized it was Jungkook this time, his voice laced with confusion.

"Oh, nothing really, I was just looking for you," Taehyung replied, his voice smooth and reassuring. "Are you okay? Jeongguk appeared out of nowhere."

"Well, he took advantage of my weakness that time," Jungkook explained, rubbing the back of his neck. "I was overthinking and blaming myself for what happened to you, that's why."

Taehyung stepped closer to Jungkook, wrapping his arms around his neck.

"It's okay, I understand," Taehyung said, his voice filled with warmth. "I just hope you would trust me this time. You know, I would like to spend my time with you than with your alter ego," he chuckled, pecking Jungkook's nose.

"I'm sorry, I'll try to control him properly," Jungkook smiled, wrapping his arms around his husband's waist.

"Why don't we go to bed? I was kind of tired because I went to your company and just got home. I'm kind of sleepy," Taehyung uttered, snuggling his face in the crook of Jungkook's neck.

"Uh, love, can I just go somewhere else? I just had to check for something," Jungkook said, his voice hesitant.

"Where to?" Taehyung pouted, looking up at Jungkook.

"I had to go to Jin Hyung's office tonight so he can do a session with me, you know, he's the one helping me," Jungkook explained.

"Can't you just call him to come here instead? I just badly need you right now," Taehyung frowned, snuggling his face back into Jungkook's neck.

"I'm sorry, love; maybe I'll try to go home as soon as possible," Jungkook said, his voice filled with regret. "I was told that he has patients as well that needed him, so he couldn't physically come here, but I'll make sure to go home. Would that be fine for you?"

"Fine," Taehyung sighed, pulling away from the hug.

Jungkook chuckled, watching his husband's adorable pout. "It won't take too long," he said, pecking Taehyung's forehead and turning to leave.

Taehyung watched him disappear, letting out a sigh before heading to their room, hoping for some sleep.

A smirk played on Jungkook's lips as he exited the mansion, his mind filled with a sense of purpose.
