Chapter 23: Found Out
Anxious, Mr. Yeon still decided to do what he was told to. Since everyone in the company knew that he was secretary Hyusuk, the guard allowed him to get inside, telling him that he just had to get something from his desk, and the guard did not question him and let him.
"Are the CCTV cameras on?" Mr. Yeon asked the guard while they were inside the elevator.
"They aren't turned on after all the employees leave," the guard responded. He was there to assist Mr. Yeon since it was already dark on all of the floors, and he knew where the switch was to turn them on better than any other employees.
"How about Mr. Hyusuk's office?" Mr. Yeon just wanted to make sure everything was okay.
"They were off as well, but I'm sure that if someone turned on the light, the cameras would automatically turn on." The guard replied to him.
"Was there a device like that in his safe?" Mr. Yeon knew how cautious Hyusuk could be, mostly if it was something important to him.
"I'm sure there's none, but why are you asking about that? You should know better about it than me because you're his secretary, right?" There was confusion in the guard's tone.
"Hahaha, I knew about his safe lock, but I wasn't aware of his safety precautions to it." Mr. Yeon awkwardly laughed.
"Are you going to his office? I don't think Mr. Hyusuk would be fine about that if you didn't ask for his permission." The guard doesn't want to get in trouble.
"No, I'm not going to his office; I don't want to get in trouble as well. I'm just asking to make sure that the security was doing their jobs properly," Mr. Yeon chuckled to hide his anxiety.
"I see," then the elevator door opened. "Do you want me to assist you in looking for the stuff you left, Mr. Yeon?" the guard asked.
"No, I'll be fine alone," Mr. Yeon came out of the elevator.
"Then, I'll turn on the light for you to make it easy for you to find your stuff," the guard uttered.
"No, that would be unnecessary; I knew exactly where I had left my bag. You can just go back, checking each floor properly to make sure you didn't miss anything out of the ordinary," Mr. Yeon insisted with a forced smile on his lips.
"Okay, Mr. Yeon, please call me if you need some help," The guard bowed his head and pressed the button on the elevator.
The elevator door has closed, leaving Mr. Yeon alone on the main floor of Hyusuk's office. He roamed his eyes around to make sure that there would be no hidden camera in sight. He walked to Hyusuk's office and took the key in his pocket. The key was a replica of the original version of Hyusuk's key. He stole it earlier when he had a conversation with him. He was hoping that Hyusuk wouldn't notice the lost replica right away because Hyusuk would go back to the company if that happened.
He was nervous while trying to unlock the safe. His hands were shaking, but he had to do it faster since the guard might get suspicious if he stayed longer. As he unlocked the safe, he checked the file thoroughly and took a picture of the most important part. He sent each of them to that person right away. Since there is plenty of evidence against Hyusuk, some of the pictures were loading before they would be sent. He couldn't help but curse under his breath because of how slow the pictures would load.
Well, that's fine for now.
Mr. Yeon's fingers fumbled with the safe's latch, his heart a frantic drum against his ribs He slipped his phone into his pocket, the cold metal a stark contrast to the clammy sweat on his skin. The click of the safe closing echoed unnervingly loud in the sudden silence. He hadn't even fully straightened when he heard it - the soft scrape of a shoe against the polished floor, the almost imperceptible creak of the door opening.
Hyusuk stood there, silhouetted in the dim light, his face a mask of controlled fury. The brown envelope, the very one Mr. Yeon had just photographed, was clutched tightly in his hand. The air crackled with unspoken accusations.
"Secretary Yeon," Hyusuk's voice was a low, dangerous growl, devoid of any warmth. "What... precisely... were you doing?" His gaze was like ice, piercing Mr. Yeon to the core.
Mr. Yeon's breath hitched. He stumbled back a step, his carefully constructed composure shattering. He dropped to his knees, his face paling as he met Hyusuk's unwavering stare.
"Mr. Hyusuk... I... I was forced," he stammered, his voice trembling. "I had no choice. They... they threatened my family." His words were a desperate plea, a fragile shield against the storm gathering in Hyusuk's eyes.
Hyusuk took a slow, deliberate step closer, his shadow falling over Mr. Yeon like a suffocating shroud."Forced? Such a convenient excuse. Who, precisely, were these... threats?" His voice was deceptively calm, each word a carefully placed stone in the wall closing in around Mr. Yeon.
Mr. Yeon's body shook, a silent testament to his terror. He tried to speak, but only a choked sob escaped his lips. He felt a cold dread grip his heart, a chilling premonition of what was to come.
"Speak, Secretary Yeon," Hyusuk's voice was a low, menacing whisper, each syllable carrying the weight of unspoken power. "Tell me who dared to threaten you, and I will show you what I am capable of." His eyes narrowed, a predatory gleam appearing in their depths.
Mr. Yeon's gaze darted around the room, searching for an escape, a glimmer of hope. He found none. He knew he had to choose, even if the choice felt like a death sentence. He closed his eyes, took a shuddering breath, and whispered the name, a desperate gamble, a confession.
"It was... Mr. Jeon Jungkook, sir," he breathed, the words barely audible above the frantic beating of his own heart.
A flicker of surprise crossed Hyusuk's face, quickly replaced by a chilling smirk. The expression was so unexpected, so utterly devoid of the rage Mr. Yeon had anticipated, that it sent a fresh wave of fear through him.
"Jungkook," Hyusuk murmured, his voice low and contemplative. "So the boy I raised... is finally learning to play the game."He paused, his gaze lingering on Mr. Yeon, a strange mixture of amusement and something darker simmering in his eyes.
"He's... bolder than I anticipated." A predatory gleam intensified in his eyes. "Perhaps I should... reward him for his... ambition."
It seemed the boy he raised was learning how to act like a man. No wonder why he was craving for more of him. Maybe he should get a taste of Jungkook to see how fun it would turn out.
