I scrambled to get everything together. I had a wicker basket sitting on the counter, filled with sandwiches and cookies. I opened the fridge with my foot, holding glass jars in one hand. I pulled out some lemonade and poured it into the jars, securing them closed with a ribbon.

"Cute," I said, admiring my handiwork. I neatly arranged them into the basket and then ran to the bathroom. The mirror hanging above the sink showed my curly hair neatly pulled into a ponytail. I twirled and my sundress billowed around me.

I dashed into the hallway and put on my sandals.

"You ready to go?" Andrew asked, twirling his keys around a finger. My parents were out somewhere that afternoon, so I asked Andrew to drive me to the park. It was pretty obvious what I was doing there.

I nodded, beaming.

"You are such a dork," he said, ruffling my hair.

"Hey! I spent a long time on that!" I complained, straightening my ponytail.

"I know you wanna look cute for your girlfriend and all, but you're gonna be late," Andrew said looking at the clock.

Oh shoot, he was right. It was 11:50 and I was supposed to be there by noon.

I grabbed the basket and rushed to Andrew's car.

We got in and zoomed off as fast as we could.

"Okay, so," Andrew said, his eyes on the road.

"What?" I asked

"You're my sister. Just because she's a girl, doesn't mean I'm not gonna be protective. So some rules--"

"Oh my god." I hit my head on the dash.

"Just hear me out!" He said defensively. "If she breaks your heart, I'll break her kneecaps. Okay?"

I laughed. "You wouldn't."

"No duh. But I'll scare her a little. No one messes with my little sister."

I stuck out my tongue. "Any more rules?"

"Yep," he said, turning a corner.

"What?" I asked.

"No kissing."

"What?!" I yelled.

He swerved to the side of the road. "Don't do that! Geez, you scared me."

I chuckled sheepishly. "Sorry. But, I think we can kiss."

He shook his head. "No way. You're too young."

"I'm gonna be sixteen soon!" I protested.

He stayed firm. "I don't care. You're still too young."

I rolled my eyes. "It's not like we could kiss in public anyway," I muttered.

Andrew frowned. "Why not?"

"Uh, we're girls. We're not exactly supposed to do that."

Andrew gripped the steering wheel tighter. "That's stupid. And homophobic," he said.

"People are stupid. And homophobic," I said, sighing.

"If anyone is ever rude to you because of your sexuality, tell me and I'll kill them. Okay?" He said, dead serious.

I nodded, looking out the window. "I hate that this is even a concern." I looked back towards him as we pulled up to the park. "But thanks for caring. I... it's nice to have someone there for me."

Andrew smiled. "Of course. That's what brothers are for, right? Now go get your girl."

I grinned, taking my basket and running out of the car.
