prompt and siren ^^^
ngl I really like the idea of this one so maybe I'll turn it into an actual book thing who knows
A wailing sound disrupted Cooper's sleep, making him get out of bed. It assaulted his ears, never stopping and repeating over and over in the same pitch. "Carson? Travis? Noah?" he called, venturing out of his room and into the hallway as he called for his housemates. There was no reply.
Cooper began to worry, wiggling the doorknobs and pushing on the doors that lead to their locked rooms. "Guys? Come on, this isn't funny!"
A few minutes later, he was slumped on the couch with his phone in his hands, earphones in his ears to block out the horrific, mysterious and annoying siren. He texted and called everyone in his contacts at least twice and got no reply, tapping his foot nervously on the ground as if awaiting a hospital test results. Eventually growing too anxious to sit still, Cooper got up and left the house.
It was dawn, meaning that many stores were about to open. Surely somebody was around that could reassure him that everything was okay. The siren had stopped at that point, drowning the world in silence.
------
Cooper resisted the urge to shed a tear or two. Yes, it would be completely healthy to, but he wasn't about to weep about something that could easily be an elaborate prank.
Stores were unlocked, though all lights were off and there wasn't a single worker to be seen in any of them. It was as if they suddenly just...disappeared. How could that have happened, though? Everybody on Earth just couldn't have vanished in a single night. Even if they did, why would Cooper still be there? Why hadn't he vanished like everyone else?
Then it dawned on him that if there was absolutely no lights on, nobody in his house, nobody on the streets and nobody setting up shop, then something just have been up. There was no way everybody in the damn city could just be pranking him.
He was alone.
