The Night

The night that ensued was nothing more than a blur.
First came greeting guests. The thousands of vampires that Matt invited specifically to show off his new prize. I felt so many eyes on me in a matter of minutes that I have never felt since. The dead icy gazes searching my frame and being, as if trying to peer into what little of a soul I had left.

I stood, broken and defeated in front of these eyes for hours. I was Matt's prize. Every smile, glare, and passing glance told me so. They pounded deep within my mind, bidding me stay still. And still, I stayed. Perched upon Matt's arm, presenting nothing less than perfection.

' Remember why you are doing this'  The words rang within my head, a constant bell tolling its dark song over the land of my mind that once was. The land of life and cheer that is no longer. Still there I perch, a smile present in the midst of deep and dark and mysterious whispers tugging on my ears from hidden corners in the room. The symphony of quiet voices brandishing the words of hate and scorn. Each voice wielding a cacophony of weapons based upon nothing and yet poised to strike.

The chaotic noise began to build up, screaming at me from every breath released and every word spoken and every step taken. The noise gathered around me, swirling in it's own every which way and tangling into louder and louder screams. Screams of mercy and hatred, hellish and divine. Screams so deafening the room seemed to twist and swirl with them. I myself began to feel as though I were twisting, spinning around in circles and stumbling over words that bade me trip. As hard as they scream my head landed against the cold floor. The screaming stopped. The blackness set in my mind. Peace, ensued.

Finally through the darkness came light. I was sitting, the aroma of meat and fruit pouring into my nose and tugging me back into conciousness. The table before me glistened with fruit and sweets of all kinds. The smell digging deep into the depths of my aching stomach. I had not eaten since I'd left the base. A plate set before me, untouched and loaded with foods I thought I'd never see again. At this moment my hearing returned, muffled still. A hand on my back and a crowd around me, a voice calling my name.

"Love? Love? Are you alright darling?"

"Mmmmm" Still unaware of what was happening around me.

"Come on love. Come back to me" Matt's voice pleaded in my ear. My eyes allowed me to see at last. Matt's eyes met my own as I began to reawaken in this world were I am Queen.

"The Queen is Awake!"

The crowd parted for two medics to come and inspect me. Within a few seconds Matt lifted me up and carried me away. Away from the screaming, throbbing noise. The door opened to my room and the large, soft bed upon which I am laid. The sheets are pulled over me and I sink down deeper into their comforting embrace. The darkness returns to my mind, bidding me sleep. What caused it to come in the fist place I do not know. A hushed voice from the door provided me with the answer.

"The Queen was POISONED?!"
