Papa Cop

.   .   .

"Mr. O'Neil, you're a man of Law, yes?"

"Yes." I answered chastely.

"And according to our sources you graduated from NYU, law school, exactly five years ago. One of the largest schools in the states" He stated.

"Your sources are correct." I said back with a stoic expression on my face.

"Well then it is by no question that you know the complications that come with Identity theft."

"Might have dazed off while the professor mentioned it, maybe" I said sardonically with a smirk. Which was gone when Maple smacked my arm violently.

"And you Ms. Red." He said as he shifted his attention to her, "You're a journalist, right?" She nodded and he took it as a sign to continue. "Well, your reputation precedes you, or so you can say, but you surely know how to get your way around. You sure know a scandal like that can jeopardize your chances at working in any high newspaper or magazine, right?"

"Well sir, all my chances were already in jeopardy prior to my crimes." She said calmly.

He gave us both a dirty look before he got up from his seat. They first drove off to the police station, did some paperwork then we went down some stairs and TA-DA...secret room.

I was right about the agency part, though.

It was the deputy closest to my house, I could call my mother or any of my firm-mates and ask them to pull some strings and get us out of here. But the man in front of me — Matthew Keller according to his card and tag— wouldn't even let me make any calls. He would shoot me a glare when I say something to Maple even.

"Now what?" I asked when I grew tired from sitting on that metal scrap of a chair. We've been here for quite some time now.

"We wait for our boss to come."

"You mean your boss." Maple corrected.

"No, our" He said, it was then that the door flew open attracting the attention of the three people in the room, which are now four.

"The man of the hour has appeared, yay." I said with a roll of my eyes. "So what? You're now some underground agent that I didn't know of or what?"

"Or what" He stated calmly, he passed by the bulky officer and tipped him a few papers in his back pocket, "You can head out now Keller; I would love to have a word with my son alone."

He didn't have to be told twice, Bulky Matt tipped his head down before heading straight out of the door while slamming the door after him.

Silence filled the room, aside from the echo of the door, I had nothing to say on my part, and Maple better not have anything to say on her part.

Freddie O'Neil on the other hand looked like he had A LOT to say on his part, but he just looked like he didn't know where to start.

"Listen Adam, I didn't want to do it this way." He sighed aloud as he took a seat right proportionally to mine.

"You know you could have sent this over text or summoned me to your office, I would have come, but you didn't have to give me a cardiac arrest with the police chasing me!" I snapped. My fiancée remained calm beside me, not uttering a word.

"You wouldn't have come." He shook his head then exhaled loudly, "look," he started, "I have an offer to make." He stated, I was about to open my mouth and say that I want nothing to do with him, he shushed me up with the 'just hear me out'.
