We had driven out to the woods a few miles from a quaint, sleepy town. I was so absorbed in watching the lush forest go by I hadn't even noticed when Diego had pulled up to a literal cabin in the woods. I had kind of thought those were a thing made up by Hollywood.

Diego stepped up and unlocked the door saying something in Spanish. He must've realized that we didn't understand because he restated his sentence in english: 'Home sweet home'.

The inside was much less underwhelming than the outside. Well, anything could be more exciting than the horror shack appearance.

Immediately inside was a living room furnished with a leftover threadbare green couch and empty wooden entertainment centre against the wall closest the door.

A kitchen was visible to the right, plain white counters and banged up wooden cupboards, baby blue walls throughout the two rooms and into the hallway on the left.

We explored the doors in the hall to find three rooms and 1 (one!) medium sized bathroom. The bathroom matched the kitchen, the coordination ironic since the very doors through out our new home were mismatched and different colours.

We each claimed a room: Diego the grey door on the right, Vanya the light wooden door on the left, and I took the freaking etched glass door straight down the hall. We set the meager amount of possessions we collected in the past month in the bare rooms that only had mattresses on the floor.

Diego left saying he saw a grocery store in town and would grab us dinner, but I wasn't paying much attention to him. I was more focused on my conversation with Ben.

After spending probably ten minutes in my new room, I got bored and decided to go bother Vanya. This didn't go as I planned, as when I stood in front of her door I heard sobbing and labored breathing. Gasping and sputtering that made my heart clench with worry.

I slowly turned the bronze handle and peaked in to find my sister on her knees, eyes far away and swimming. I quietly crouched in front of her and slowly reached out to make her eyes meet mine. Only then did she seem to even know I was there. Her tears came faster and wordlessly I enveloped her in my arms.

I lost track of time as we sat on the dusty floor, rocking slightly as I traced soothing patterns on her back. When her breathing evened out, I pulled her off me just enough to meet her eyes once more. I used my fingers to wipe away remaining tears and smooth the stray brunet locks that were plastered to her cheeks back in place, before placing a kiss to the top of her hair.

I wanted so badly to say something, anything, I had so many questions. Do you want to talk about it? What happened? Are you alright? But rather I chose to let her break the silence first. I wasn't about to risk sending her back into a panic by bombarding her with questions.

"I saw... " Her voice was so quiet I almost didn't hear it. "I saw Allison." Almost.

I heard an engine roll up and Diego come in and head for the kitchen to prepare dinner. Vanya either didn't hear or was so wrapped up in her head that she didn't notice.

"It was so real... She was lying on the ground, red pooling around her. Blood. Blood was pooling around her... Her blood... It was all my fault. I didn't mean it... I didn't mean it. I didn't mean it." She continued, whispering it like a mantra... I didn't mean it, I didn't mean it, I didn't mean it. The haunted gleam in her eyes broke my heart.
