'Cuz all of me, loves all of you, love your curves and all your edges, all your perfect imperfections.'
Taking a few steps I launched the front half of my body into the air keeping my feet planted on the ground, stretching my arms up to the roof as I gripped at the air with my right hand, reaching for something unattainable. Suddenly I dropped both my arms and held them out either side of me and spun around as I leap into the air, this time my feet leaving the floor. As soon as I landed I took a big step forward, then pulled my body back, pushing my chest out before ducking back under myself before spinning around again.
'Even when I lose I'm winnin', cuz I give you all of me, and you give me all of you. I give you all of me, and you give me all of you.'
With my arms held out either side of my body I moved my right arm up and down and followed with my left, creating a ripple effect. I then stood up straight and brought my arms down by my sides slowly, and gradually cast my gaze to the floor as the song ended. I stepped off the soft blue mat onto the hardwood floor and made my way over to where my bag was sitting against a wall. Glancing up at the clock I sighed in relief, 10:15 am, I couldn't believe I'd been here since 5 am. I took out my water bottle and was about to open it when I heard a voice from behind.
"Hey, that was great Carla!" My dance partner who also doubled as my best friend announced as he ran over to me, "one of the best solos I think you've ever done."
"Thanks," I replied as I unclipped the lid to my water bottle and took a drink.
"Are you going to Ivy's party tonight?" He asked.
I packed my bottle back into my bag and dug around for my phone as I answered, "yeah, wouldn't miss it, you?"
"I'd have to be pretty strange to not attend my own sisters 21st," he laughed.
"Aww I'm not sure, you have been known to do strange things Mr West," I teased, reaching up to ruffle his chestnut hair.
He pushed me playfully, "you know I hate it when you call me Mr," he chuckled, "Miss Hall."
"Hey don't call me that," I giggled, "Mr West."
"Why not Miss Hall?" He teased.
I pursed my lips, "my name's Carla," I stated.
"My name's Jay," he copied in the tone I had used, then laughed, "anyway games aside, what are you up to today?"
"First I'm gonna go get a second coffee," I replied, slinging my bag over my shoulder, "then I'm taking a walk in the park, going home, and probably finishing off my painting. Then I'll spend about two hours on my makeup for tonight only to end up hating my creating and reminding myself for the millionth time that my artistic skills are best used on paper and not on my face."
Jay chuckled at my statement before giving me a quick hug, "alright well have a good day, I'll see you tonight."
I raised my eyebrows, "you're not leaving?"
"Nah, there's a group of grade tens coming in for a two-hour workshop and I'm staying to help," he replied.
"Ughh, well, you've got more stamina than me," I stated, pushing open the door, "seeya."
~~~
"Yes," I whisper yelled as the empty coffee cup that I had aimed at the trash can actually went in. I looked around me and breathed in a deep breath of the warm summer air, the park was so nice this time of day, it was my escape. An escape from stress, work, and just life. But in all honesty, I did love my job, I adored animals and I worked in a grooming salon for dogs, and with my artistic streak, I loved clipping and bathing them.
