[ chapter thirty-three ]

The drive was silent, buildings, lights and people racing by as I rested my head onto the window. We had left about half an hour ago, and I still didn't know where we were going.

The sky was a beautiful colour of soft violet, slowly protruding to indigo as small lights filled the atmosphere. I yawned, catching Jungkook's attention.

He decided to stay silent as we pulled into the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere.

"We're here," he said, opening the door for me. I blinked twice as I looked around. It was dark, the roads empty and there were no street lights either. We walked along the road, when we finally ended up at a small beach, filled with people.

They were all writing on a small paper, before placing it into something. My eyes looked around at all the young couples and groups, all smiling. The air felt peaceful, my gaze landing on Jungkook.

"Come," A small smile crept onto his lips before he intertwined his hand with mine, leading me to an empty spot in the back. He sat me down before grabbing two of the materials.

As he handed one to me, I observed the structure, curiosity getting the best of me. "What is it?" I asked, taking a marker from his grip. "It's a floating lantern. We write what we want to let go of on the piece of paper, and place it into the middle of it, letting it burn."

He scribbled down on the piece of paper as I was lost in thought. I wanted to let go of a lot of things. I wanted to let go of my insecurities. Being alone, unhappy, not enough. As I continued to explore the ends of my mind, I realized that my insecurities were all built because of them.

The people who I trusted, loved, regretted. They proved to me that I wasn't the best, that they could do so much better. And it hurt. My hand stood dull as the ink slowly spread throughout the paper.

Without realizing, salty tears made its way down my cheeks, glistening as the various lanterns started to light up the sky. Jungkook folded his paper and placed it in the middle, turning to me, his eyes softening when he saw me in that state.

His hand held my cheek and lifted it towards him. His thumb gliding under my eyes, wiping away my tear. His lips parted, as he spoke gently.

"Everything's going to be alright, all you have to do is forgive and forget. It's going to be hard at first, but trust me - its worth it in the end."

I exhaled a deep breath and slowly nodded, the ends of my mouth curling upward. I folded my paper, placing it in the lantern and lighting it up. We stood up, as we gently pushed it into the air, our eyes shining as we admired the small floating star.

As Jasmine continued to stare up at the lit sky, Jungkook's eyes were elsewhere. He admired her as a huge grin was present on her beautiful face.

Jungkook carefully gazed over her features, from her honey eyes to her plump, peach lips. His body slowly leaning in, without him even knowing. Jasmine looked away and was suddenly inches away from her friend.

They were so close, that the tips of their noses brushed against each other. Jasmine was frozen still, not knowing what to do. "W-what are you- "

Jungkook shushed her, holding her face with both of his large hands. His doe-like eyes stared at her so intensely, as if he could see right through her. The tension in their presence disappeared as if they were the only ones standing.

He noticed as Jasmine's gaze focused on his lips, subconsciously biting her lower lip. He smirked at the sight as he leaned closer and closer each second.

Lips parted, no space in between them, heavy breathing. His lips gently brushed against mine, and I froze once more.

"You deserve so much better," he whispered against my skin, before connecting his lips with mine.

I melted as his warm lips fit perfectly with mine. His hand made its way to my back as he the kiss got deeper, I clutched onto his shirt.

My heart felt like it ran a marathon, but—

I felt so alive.
