Extra Scene #4 - Mark of Athena + Truth

It was the first time that the Seven sat around the table together. Leo was scooting away from Annabeth, who had tackled him as a "nice to meet you!" (Not really, but that's a story for another time, Jason held an ice pack to his head, Frank had a nervous arm around Hazel, Hazel was studying Leo, Piper was looking at Jason, Percy was eating a slice of pizza, and Annabeth sat at the head of the table, about to speak.

"Look guys, on a quest, we all need to trust each other, right?"

The six demigods nodded, each wondering why she was mentioning this.

"I want us all to trust each other. We can't be going on quests with people we don't trust." She looked at Leo at the last few words.

The son of Heaphestus threw his hands up, "It wasn't me! There was something wrong!"

Annabeth nodded, "See? He's hard to believe right now. However, Piper, do you believe him?"

"Yeah." Piper nodded, "I agree. He wasn't acting like Leo. There was definitely something wrong."

Annabeth smiled as if she'd just proven a point. "I barely know Piper, Jason, and Leo. But I'd trust Percy, Hazel, and Frank with my life. I hope that also goes the other way."

Percy made a face and pretended to think. But in reality, his heart was beating faster. The idea that Annabeth trusted him made him unbelievably happy.

The daughter of Athena rolled her eyes and smacked Percy's head, "My life has literally been in his hands before. Twice. I'd say he does a good job."

Frank laughed.

Piper tilted her head, "So what do you want us to do?"

"I want us all to share one fact about ourselves. Something we keep hidden. The more you know about somebody, the more you trust them. Knowing someone's secrets means that they're like family. You'd never leave them."

The remaining six smiled and nodded along.

"This is almost always true." Annabeth sighed.

"That Luke dude, right?" Jason asked. "Thalia told me about him."

Annabeth nodded, "As long as you're not like Luke, you're good."

Percy wanted to laugh and shout Too late! Instead, he mentally laughed.

"I'll go first." Annabeth announced, "My mom gave me a quest, just before I disappeared. She gave me a coin and told me to 'follow the Mark of Athena.' I get to do a solo quest in Rome."

Piper nodded, "My dad is a movie star, and I used to accidently charmspeak and steal cars to get his attention. He was kidnapped just before our quest, and I was ready to betray my friends to get him back. Luckily, they understood, and we were able to work together."

Jason smiled, "First of all, I'm Thalia's brother." He told Annabeth, "Secondly, my mom gave me up as a sacrifice to Hera when I was two. She left me to the wolves, so basically for dead."

"Yikes, bro." Leo said, "But I think I win. I killed my mom when I was eight. Gaea showed up and said stuff. I tried to light her on fire, but it got into the warehouse where my mom was instead, locking her in and killing her. I have a personal grudge against Gaea, can't wait to fight her."

"I came back from the dead. My brother, Nico, led me out of the Underworld." Hazel supplied.

Percy choked on his pizza, "Nico di Angelo?"

"You know him?" Hazel asked.

Percy nodded, "Very well."

"My life is tied to a stick." Frank said, folding his hands nervously. "If it lights on fire and burns completely, I die. Sorry Leo."

Leo looked concerned, "It's cool. No fire around my man, Frank!"

Annabeth looked at Percy.

"Uh, I had an abusive stepfather named Gabe!" Percy practically shouted.

Annabeth raised an eyebrow, "I didn't know that. Now, the other one, Percy. It's not something you want people finding out later. Tell them."

Percy mentally cursed. Why did he have to make stupid decisions?

"I used to work for Kronos." Percy said, lowering his head.

The others, besides Annabeth, looked shocked. "I wasn't expecting that one." Leo said.

Annabeth smiled, "Don't worry. He's good now. He was forced into it before he even knew about the gods. So was Nico, actually." She looked at Hazel. "After the death of Bianca, Percy convinced Nico to join him. They both realized their mistake, and helped defeat Kronos in the end."

Frank patted Percy's shoulder, "Sounds rough. Sorry about that dude."

Percy nodded, "Sorry about your stick, man."

Something about those words made the group laugh. And despite all their differences, the group came together and a bond was formed.

"Maybe you shouldn't go."

"Percy, quit talking. You're one of my best friends, but I'm asking you to shut the Hades up!"

Percy crossed his arms, "Annabeth! This solo quest is dangerous! What if something goes wrong? How many people have come back from this 'Mark of Athena' thing anyway? I'm not letting you go down there alone."

"This is a solo quest, Percy. Plus, Athena would blast you for intruding."

"You're one of my only friends, Annabeth. I can't let you die!"

"You have the other five, Grover, Nico, kind of Thalia, the Stolls, and kind of Clarisse. You'd be fine without me." The daughter of Athena told him, stepping onto the boat.

"But I love you!" Percy blurt out. He immediately regretted it when the daughter of Athena stared at him with a shocked expression. But before either demigod could say anything, the boat sailed away, leading Annabeth Chase to her possible doom.

Percy decided he needed to duct tape his mouth shut to prevent him from saying stupid things. He couldn't believe that he just told one of his best friends he loved her as she sailed off to do a dangerous solo quest.

He really hoped Annabeth didn't die, but if she did, then he wouldn't have to deal with the awkward conversation that was about to happen.

He sighed and sat on his bed in his small room Leo had made for him. It was decorated with pictures. Smiling faces stared down at him.

He wanted to take the pictures and rip them up. They reminded him of simpler times.

Her stared at a picture of him, Luke, and Nico posing for a funny picture. Would aiding the rise of a Titan Lord be considered simpler times?

Percy groaned and laid back on the bed. Being a teenager was already super hard. Why did he have to be a demigod teenager too?

Little bit of insight into Percy's brain!

It's almost 3 am, oops...
