The Esper, The Dragon, And The Hollow

The song is the theme for Mikoto's inner selves. (Taken from Soul Eater).

Our inner worlds are the representations of who we are, and that is the truth. Soul Reapers are not the only ones who bare this. Every living thing has a world within their deepest subconscious. And if a sentient soul has power.. a power of any sort at all, then that power will manifest within that inner world. Mikoto Misaka is no exception.. An inner hollow, a dragon, an esper.. those three all live within her.. and eventually, just like with the hollow, she'll have to speak to those other two aspects eventually.

"GRAAAHHH!!!" Grimmjow sat up from where he lay with a start. "CRAP!! What the heck!? What the hell!?"

"Easy.." Mira was kneeling at Grimmjow's side with a cheerful smile on her face. "I found you here injured and passed out. I managed to bandage up that wound, but you're going to have to take it easy for a bit."

"Damn Lady, you're always following me around." Grimmjow muttered.

Mira just smiled. "Thank you for taking care of Mikoto and Natsu.. that was kind of you.."

"Kind? Kind?" Grimmjow muttered. "I already told those two, I'm only here to get at that bastard Ulquiorra.. damn.. I can feel Ulquiorra's spiritual pressure from here... there's somthin' going on.. what's happening.... are those two block heads okay?"

Mira shook her head. "I don't know.."

"IRON FIST OF THE FIRE DRAGON!!!" One of Natsu's collosal flame gauntletts colided with Ulquiorra's face, causing him to shift back slightly.

Natsu let out another punch, and another, with every punch the flames grew larger and more violent.

"I see.." Ulquiorra said as he took each every one of Natsu's blows with little effort. "I can feel the force increasing with every blow. Like your flame sword before your ability evolved, your attack power increases with every blow you land on your target.. eventually if I take so many blows, you might actually manage to bruise me.."

"SHUT UP!!!" Natsu roared as he landed another flaming punch into Ulquiorra's gut. Ulquiorra did not even buckle, he merely stepped back a few inches.

Ulquiorra slammed Natsu aside with one arm and the Dragon Slayer tumbled into the desert. "Quite quaint for another Born Slayer.."

"Born Slayer?" Natsu growled as he got up.

"You really are ignorant. " said Ulquiorra. "God Born, Dragon Born, Demon Born, Angel Born... all Slayers who have gained greater powers because they were born with the blood of the ones they were meant to slay.. that is a Born Slayer. Dragon Borns however, are the only ones able to achieve ability evolution. This is because of the ability for dragons to adapt in the wild. Your powers when you first unlocked your ability were the result of your constant need to attack.. as a result, your Flame Sword was born.."

Ulquiorra pointed at Mikoto lying in the sand. "Her ability was born for two reasons.. firstly, she was an esper, and esper power stems from the same divine reality manipulation that is used by Angels.. and as one who worked to being a Level 5 rather then being born one.. this allowed her esper power to shape her Dragon Born ability immensely, resulting in her wings and angelic Dragon Force ability.. the same can be said for Azure Saphire. Rhode Jarred was always a Level 5, so this does not apply to him."

(It is also theorized that Mikoto felt vulnerable on the inside after the events of Project Radio Noise, knowing she couldn't solve every problem on her own, which resulted in the defensive nature of her wings.)
