Damon
I walk briskly through the airport, very much aware of the attention of both males and females that I've captured even without saying a word. I'm as much of a people's person as the next guy and it's all well and good when I charm the pants off anybody I want to with just my signature smirk and a few nice words. But sometimes everyone just needs an off day from all sorts of attention, a dial back to just settle in oneself and refresh the body, soul, and mind.
I head towards exit A in the arrivals section of the airport where I know Dash will most likely be at, and if he isn't at least I get a whole overview of the cars present and I can easily pick his out.
I push open the door to the slightly windy weather and immediately I spot his black Bentley Continental Flying Spur right there in the drive through that's usually in front of arrivals exit. The wind hits my face and I feel my natural blond hair doing the whole windy dance, flying in different direction in a sort of patterned dance. It's one of those rare days that I let it out instead of my usual neat low bun and side fade.
Once my luggage is settled, I get into the passenger seat super grateful to the inventor of tinted windows for this blessing.
"Thanks for picking me up Dashy." I remove my shades and just run my hands through my hair purely out of tiredness.
"You're welcome goldilocks." His deep voice rolls out fluidly, and I roll my eyes at his stupid nickname for me.
"How was it?" A little over two months in China, to close a building materials deal for a contract my company was awarded by the state government to build a new mall. For a contract of this magnitude, large amounts of materials at a certain time are going to be needed. I felt like our previous suppliers haven't been consistent enough to scratch that itch and so I turned to our Chinese partners.
"I closed it this morning." I just had to remind with Mr Yang on how much I invested in his raw materials company when he started sinking less than two years ago. Dirty cut business is really not my style but if it gets the job done and your opponent knows that they have more to lose than you do, then then I suggest taking the win while you can.
"Sweet" He wiggles his eyebrows at me but I don't bother commenting on it as a very strong yawn, the type that leaves tears in its wake takes over me. "Damn, hungry or tired?"
"Both man, right now my main priority is food, shower, and sleep in that order." Another yawn comes on and it leaves me feeling exhausted as I feel my eyes water again and sleep lurks around the corner.
"Kinda suspected that, Rosa is making Feijoada right now." I would marry this man right here right now if I thought we were even going to last more than a day as husbands. He has my favorite just waiting for me without being asked or begged, the way to a man's heart really is through his stomach I relate to Esau so much right now. With one half of my parents being Brazilian, I grew up on Feijoada, soccer, and Sertanejo in that order.
"Will you marry me? I have no ring but we could always seal it with a kiss or two." I ask very seriously.
Dash sucks in a deep breath before answering "I hate to break your fragile heart but you're just not my type and I'm taken." The seriousness in the air is dissipated as we burst into an uncontrollable laughter, the horn from the other cars being the indicator of the green light at the intersection we're at.
After a well needed breath I turn to face him "Seriously thank you for always being there Dashiel, I appreciate it." I really do need to find Ms Granger our 6th grade teacher and thank her for deciding to oddly assign seats based on first names and of course Dashiel and Damon, we sat next to each other. And so this friendship began and we're more like brothers now.
"Well someone's gotta take care of you Eugene."
"And moment ruined." Major emphasis on the first moment. He releases a deep belly laughter as I turn back around to lay my head on the comfy headrest and get my first dose of sleep before we arrive home. The journey would take about twenty minutes.
I'm woken up from my quick nap couple of minutes later by Dash's deep loud voice as he yells as someone on the other side of the phone. It's almost maniacal as he threatens whoever the poor fella on the receiving end is.
"I'll be there in like ten, nothing must happen to him Nate or I swear to god...." Oh it's him.
Nate must have disconnected the call because another string of curses escape Dash as he curses the fucker.
"Quick detour Day, Marco is in the hospital." Every fiber of tiredness in me evaporates as pores that were dormant initially quickly fill with newly found energy when the weight of those words hit me. My Marco... in the hospital... I don't bother with the why's or what's or the technicality of what happened as all I want to do is get to him and fucking hold him in my arms and tell him everything is going to be okay.
After the last conversation with Marco, I'd left the country as early as the next day. Once the news of the recipient of the contract was announced to be Richardson Corporation and thus furthered the disconnect between myself and Marco again.
"Dashiel drive faster." I warn lowly, whatever emotions fueling me right now scares me as it's like a spark of flame in a very flammable environment, it ignites, burns quick and burns fast. That scares me.
