The Knights Templar, or the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, were endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church in the year 1192 but had been around since 1118. The order became widely favored and had grew quickly in numbers when it came to Christian military power and Christian finance. A married man who wanted to join the Knights Templar couldn't do so without the wife's permission, and if the man were a virgin he would have to take a vow to stay pure or be chastize. The order lasted for over two centuries and during its existence it was considered the most skilled military in combat during The Crusades. But those who weren't soldiers would help the orders finances with earliest stages of banking and constructing forts amongst Europe and The Holy Land. In the beginning the order was to protect pilgrims and locals alike from bandits and defend the Christian way. But when the first crusade had arrived the order has killed Muslims, Jews, and Christian alike along with the atrocities ordered from Lionheart. Of course though not  But as The Holy Land was lost support for the order began to fade and rumors began to spread of its initiation rituals and secret activities which had caught the eye of King Philip IV of France.

When it comes to money and the order, the Templars were one of the richest military organizations in history, but the knights were never paid due to the fact that they swore in poverty to wear the red cross.
In the year of 1307, King Philip who was deeply in debt to the order had taken advantage of this situation and had the Templars all falsely convicted and pressured them all to falsely confess to activities that would be considered as crimes. These activities would be punishable by being burned at the stake. Being homosexual, practicing witchcraft, idol worshipping, devil worshipping and so on were considered to crimes back then and were most definitely used to falsely accuse the order.
As time went by King Philip had forced Pope Clement V to completely disband Templars for good. But due to the false accusations the Templars have been placed under many conspiracies such as the Masons, the Illuminati, Skull and Bones, and so on.
