You had no clue what your parents were thinking when they decided Amity Park would be the perfect place to start over. Considering they had stable jobs as professors at your old local university and one part time engineer for NASA, you were shocked with the news to move stating they had better job offers in the city. You really didn't feel like you had a choice in the matter, so you kept quiet. Saying goodbye to your friends was tough like any moving away scenario with promises to visit on occasions and keeping in touch.
You sigh unconsciously when you saw the Welcome to Amity Park sign. Your grandfather in the passenger seat heard the huff coming from behind him as he glanced at you then looked at your father in the driver's seat. He grumbled a few things something like 'the kids had no choice' or 'we could have stayed while they worked.'
Before your father could retort, you spoke up. "Papa, please," you called to your grandfather, "this is probably the best choice for us to stay together."
Your grandfather sighed, "I know, darling, but you had no choice but to come. It's not fair to you and Emily."
He gestured to your little sister sitting next to you. Her head bobbed to the movements of the car indicating she was asleep and you knew she has been a while back from the long ride. He was right. Being Emily starting in middle school, it won't be as hard to make some friends since almost everyone didn't know each other. Plus, she was outgoing so you know someone is bound to hang out with her.
But you were in the middle of high school, starting your third year soon. You're not going to know anyone. You weren't exactly an extrovert like your sister, but you had a lot of people skill from your psychology classes and debate clubs. You sighed again and closed your eyes when you felt your body tense from the anxiety building up. There was no way you were going to survive this semester if you were just stressing about your peers. You just decided to focus on studying and make some friends on the side.
You didn't realized you fell asleep until your father stopped the car in front of a two story house with a front yard where you jolted awake. Your sister besides you groaned and rubbed her eyes awake. She came close to you and laid her chin on your shoulder to see outside of the window with you to look at the house. It wasn't something impressive, but some work on the cosmetics should be able to make it look more modern.
The moving van was already in the driveway with its end open. Your mother being the one driving it with your Great Dane as she came outside the house to greet the rest of her family. Your sister lifted her head when you opened the door with a click to step out. Your muscles and joints aches to be popped as you stretched out the kinks. Your sister followed suit but soon stopped when the giant dog came running out and greeted her. You walked up to your mom with your dad following behind and gave her a hug in greeting. Your dad exchanged a peck on the lips with her after you released her.
The arrangements went like this after picking out the rooms to stay in; you and your father would carry the boxes and furniture inside while your grandfather, your mother, and your sister cleaned any dust and start unpacking the living room areas. You agreed since you didn't want your dad to be the only one pulling his back. Emily would occasionally carry the lighter loads, but that's all your father would allow.
It got to the point of your dad needing to take a break, but you wanted to get as much done before calling it quits for a takeout dinner. Boxes were the only things left and you intended to finish before sun down. You lifted yourself up on the truck to get into the back of the storage unit.
You were just about to lift the medium sized box when it began to glow. You flinched away as you saw most of them did the same. Stepping back back a few, the glowed boxes began to float. You wondered what supernatural being was doing this since you knew this was not normal. You ducked and cried out when they flew right past you and out of the truck.
