Danny yawned when he walked up the steps of his school's entrance. All night he was on patrol in case any more animal ghosts were on the loose causing him to get little to no sleep. There was a few in the area and the occasional Box Ghost but that was it. One would think he could catch a break every once in a while since yesterday was just the first day of school. He was lucky to have Sam and Tucker with him or he would have fallen asleep mid-flight when it was quiet. Then again, he had to listen to Tucker's ranting about the new girl not appreciating his good looks and was thinking of new ways to attract his target. Sure, Danny found her cute but he was starting to understand the poor girl didn't like the attention she received from the opposite sex yesterday. He didn't blame her and didn't want to frighten her like his technological obsessed friend did.
He didn't walk in with his friends like he would usually do since he over slept from the night prior. He sent them a mutual text stating he would just see them in class and they sent their acknowledgments understanding he was just resting as much as he could. It was true but he didn't want to relax too much or he would miss his morning classes. And he wouldn't want to miss the chance of stealing glances at the new girl.
Speaking of the devil, she came into his view when he closed the door to his locker. It looked like she was situating herself and organizing her books in her locker which wasn't too far from his on the same wall. Her hair was up in a ponytail this time as a pair of [color] headphones were over her ears. She didn't notice a writing utensil fell out of her bag as she closed that and her locker. She began walking away totally oblivious to the missing school supply.
Danny immediately followed her with the pen after he picked it up. Before she could get too far away, Danny caught up to her. As he got closer, he could hear the rhythm of In Bloom playing from her headset. At least he knows she like rock music, but he wondered what other music she liked. He also noticed how loud she was playing the song. He admits he finds himself blasting his stereos every once in a while when a good song comes on, but he questioned how loud she plays her music in her ears. From the sound of it, it could compete with Sam blasting her music to annoy her parents.
He tapped her on the shoulder to grab her attention. Her eyes glanced up before she realized someone was addressing her. Just as she pulled her headphones off making the music more coherent, he moved the blue pen in his hand to her peripheral vision.
"Sorry, but you dropped this," he said coolly. He gave himself props for not stuttering. He only wished for the continued conversation to be just as smooth. The song changed on her headphones as it got quiet but then the quick and upbeat of the electric guitar from Dirty Little Secret echoed.
She smiled in gratefulness before gently plucking the pen out of his hand. Her smile turned into slight guilt as she put it in her bag along with collapsing her headphones and putting it away. "Oh, thanks—was it Romeo?"
A flash of confusion hit Danny before he realized what she was referring to. He mentally rolled his eyes at the backlash his gothic friend caused. He knew Sam's sharp tongue was going to be the end of him. He chuckled a bit before answering, "Actually, it's Danny."
"Oh," she gasped slightly, "I'm sorry, I didn't know. I thought that was your name since I heard Sam call you that."
"It's alright," he smiled, "you didn't know my name so I'm sure you had to put a name to a face." She held a gentle smile. Danny mentally cheered when he saw how relaxed she seemed. Before it got awkward, he chuckled slightly, "Speaking of which, I can't keep calling you New Girl."
"Oh," she giggled nervously, "[Name]."
He can finally put a name to her face. Considering this isn't technically their first interaction, he wondered what took so long to finally learn her name. Then again, he never introduced himself in his human or ghost form. "Well, [Name]," he liked the way her name rolled off his tongue, but it was foreign; something he's going have to get used to, "I think Sam said you had English with us. Would you like to sit with us?"
Her eyes glinted with the recognizable friendly gesture, and her lips still held the gentle smile. A sudden thought must have came across her because her facial expression changed to a cringe. "I wouldn't mind and I would love that," she hesitated, "but is your friend going to be there?"
Oh, right, Tuck. Danny only hoped that it was just a one time deal with yesterday. Despite Tucker's attics with every girl he comes across besides Sam, he would usually leave them alone after being denied once, but it seems he got pretty interest in the girl in front of Danny from yesterday attempts of conjuring up new ideas. He would just have to keep his friend at bay until it dies down or he becomes less interested. "Yeah, sorry about that," he apologized while sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck, "He's not as bad once you get to know him. I'll help keep him away if it gets bad."
"Well," she sighed, "he's not as bad as Dash."
The warning bell went off and Danny gave a friendly smile. "Come on, or we'll be late," he laughed.
She followed besides him wordlessly and they both started walking towards Mr. Lancer's class. He held the door for her and she silently thanked him with a smile. She trailed behind when he entered the classroom. Sam spotted him and her eyebrow rose with a questioning glance before she changed it to a smile at [Name]. Tucker immediately set his sights on her once he saw who Sam was looking at. Danny went over to his goth friend and said, "Hey, Sam, do you mind changing seats with me?"
She instantly picked up on the hint when the blue-eyed boy glanced at the techno geek and Sam was much more than willing to oblige. He thanked her as she got up and sat in front of Tucker. He sat where she originally did and [Name] sat in front of him. Her and Sam exchanged greetings when the final bell rang and Lancer walked in getting the attention of the classroom.
"Quiet down, class has started."
