(Y/N)..?
Aaren? I-I thought you didn't want to talk to me...
I'm sorry... I thought about what you said and... I guess you're kind of right... The masked man-
Masky.
Whatever. Masky has helped you. Even with his twitchy roomate.
Toby.
Not the point. I just want to remind you to be careful. Around both of them.
Okay, I will. Goodnight Aaren.
Goodnight (Y/N).A forest... Snap. I spin around. Masky is standing there, a gun held point blank to my forehead. "Toby was right. You are weak. Nothing more than a speck of dust. Irrelevant. Goodbye, (Y/N)." Bang.
I jolt up in a start. I immediately realise it was just a dream. I put my head in my knees and cry. I don't hold back. All the torture that led up to this moment finally comes out in a wave of tears. I need to leave... Aaren is right... Masky and Toby have threatened me... Masky is just taking pity on me... Goodbye...
I stand up and grab my backpack. I open the door, only to be met with something hard. I look up. Masky is standing there, seemingly confused.
"(Y/N)? What are you- hey! Get back here!" He yells as I slip past him. I immediately run in the direction I think my home is in; I followed the general direction Masky and I headed when we got my clothes.
I hear his footsteps quickly gaining on me, so I turn right into a tight group of trees and bushes. I get poked and prodded by branches, but I keep moving. I hear Masky yelling behind me, but I don't pay attention. I reach a tiny clearing, and when I say tiny I mean like ten feet by ten feet, so I quickly climb up a tree. I don't hear anything, so I somewhat relax. It looks to be about noon.
Wow I slept for a while... Wait... If Masky is really gone, I should be able to talk to Aaren! Aaren? Hello? Wait so does that mean-
"(Y/N)?" A voice says form behind me. I jerk around, but lose my balance and slip out of the tree. Shoot! I hit the ground with a thud. The impact knocks the air out of me. "What the- are you okay?!" The voice asks. I look up at the tree to see who it is.
"To-" I try to say, but get cut off from the lack of breath. -by? The boy jumps down from the tree and rushes over to me.
He sits me up, kneels down beside me, and says, "Breathe. Just breathe. Deep breaths. It's okay."
Eventually, I regain control of my breathing and mutter, "Thank you..."
He chuckles, "No problem. But what are doing out here? Shouldn't Masky be with you or something?"
"Uhh-" I start, but get cut off by rustling in the bushes behind me. My eyes widen. "I kinda sorta ran outside past him and now I think he's mad... I don't think he wants me out here..." I whisper.
I stand up and so does Toby. "Follow me or you'll regret angering him." I nod and he grabs my hand, running the opposite direction of the rustling. He pulls me through the brush, both of us getting scratched, but it doesn't seem to affect him.
We run for what seems like forever, until I can't anymore, and I drop onto my knees. "W-where are we going?" I ask, gasping for breath. He looks down at me, then looks behind me.
"A place I like to go when I need some time alone," he says. "We were just losing him. Now I can actually take you there."
"I-I don't think I can run anymore..." I say shakily. My stomach then growled. "Can we take a break?" He pauses, before nodding his head. I grab my backpack and open the pocket with the food in it, taking out an apple.
The apple is so good, and I realize that I haven't eaten in a while. I finish it in a minute or two and climb to my feet. "Okay. I-I think I'm ready."
He nods and starts running, thankfully slower than before. We rush past hundreds of trees, before we stop at one of them. This one has a ladder. "Wait. Is this a tree house?!"
He smiles, pulling his mask down and placing his goggles on his head. It's only then I realize he has two band-aids on his cheek. He notices my staring and his eyes go wide. I quickly look away and don't question it.
He looks away and says, "You go first..." I nod and start up the rope ladder, Toby keeping it steady.
I reach the tree house and Toby quickly climbs up to join me. I scoot up into a corner with a bookshelf, while Toby sits in the middle of the floor, looking in my direction.
I look down at the floor, not sure what to say. Toby coughs, but doesn't say anything. "What time is it?" I ask. I look up as he looks outside.
"2:24," he says. "Sooo... Masky said you lost your brother..?"
I pause. "Uhh... Yeah..." A sad look crosses his face.
"I-" he stops. "I lost my sister... And I hated my dad..."
"Hated? You don't hate him now?" I ask.
He chuckles. "He's dead now."
"Oh. Okay. What made you hate him so much?"
"Before he became am alcoholic, life was... Okay I guess... But after... He started hurting my mom and my sister, th-the two people I cared about. Then... Sis and I got in a car crash... When my sister took her last few breaths in the hospital, m-my dad was the only one who didn't rush there... I wasn't the same after, and I grew more distant... One day I just... Snapped I guess... I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and... Stabbed him... My mom saw my dad bleeding on the ground and called the police... I decided to end it all in a blaze... Then, out of the flames, S-Slenderman came and told me my life wasn't over yet... I-I guess he was right..."
"Wow... Why did you tell me this? And show me this tree house? I thought you hated me..."
"I'm sorry for my first impression... I was just... Mad that Masky brought you into our lives with minimal explanation... But now... I guess I realize we're not as different as we appear..."
"Wow... Okay... I think it's only fair that I tell you my story then... Well, similar to you, life was pretty good before my mom started drinking. My dad left when we were born, so my mom took care of us, me and Sammy... Until... My mom lost her job and... Started drinking... She never hit us... But she yelled a lot... I guess I got it worse than Sammy... He's my twin, you know... Well... Was... Was my twin... I guess I got some sort of PTSD from all the yelling... Sammy and I got a job at a summer camp and... That's where I met Masky... I was taking a walk after Sammy accidentally yelled at me... And... He kinda started messing with me and threatening me... I also met Aaren... He's... A... Voice in my head I guess..."
"Wait you have a voice in your head? Like... Does he talk to you or does he just tell you what to do?"
"Uhh... Talks to me..." Toby nods his head in thought. "So anyway... I met Aaren and he told me to walk further into the woods... I did and that's when the whole Masky thing kind of happened... But his moods suddenly changed, like one minute he was angry and the next he brought me home... When I got home, Sammy and I went inside... I got pushed against the wall... And-and Sammy tried to stop her and-and she-she ki-killed him... After a while, Masky brought me back here... And I guess... You kinda know the rest..." I say, wrapping up my story.
"That's awful..." Toby says.
"Your's is too..."
"So your mom's in jail now?"
"Yeah. For manslaughter... I miss him, Toby..." He holds out his arms for a hug and I cautiously accept.
"We both have people we miss..." He says sadly. We stay in that position for a while, before pulling away. "I'm gonna see if Masky's still mad. If he is, you can stay here for the night," he suggests. I nod my head, and he climbs out the door.
"See you soon, Toby."
"See you, (Y/N)."
