Chapter 3

When I came back down after having a shower, Yasmin began putting her coat on and asked me, "How long have you two been together?"

"Five years since summer," I put my shoes on, "What about you and dad?"

"Eight years."

After the silent bus ride into town, I found myself stuck in a hot, smelly waiting room.

"I don't like hospitals either." Yasmin caught on to my expression.

"What are we doing after?"

"We could meet the boys for lunch, if you like?" Finally a good suggestion!

"Cool" I nodded.

"Mrs Y Willows," said a young nurse - it was weird to know Yasmin as 'Mrs Willows' after mum used to have that surname but dad and Yasmin were married now not Mum and dad, that thought vanished remembering mum's boyfriend Travis. "Doctor Trott is ready for you in room five."

Doctor Trott, I thought, sounds like the noise a horse makes when it's 'TROTTing' along. I tried not to laugh at my own thought and followed Yasmin and the nurse through to room five.

"Are you comfy?" the Doctor asked and Yasmin answered with a nod.

"Err, Doc, don't take this the wrong way, but what's that annoying sound?" I questioned a little nervously.

"Your brothers heart beat" she grinned.

"HALF brother" I muttered.

"Here Lexi, come have a look" Yasmin stuck her hand out.

For the first time I saw my brother, I felt tingley and warm - but I assumed it was the heat. "Aw, he's cute" I melted, "tell anyone I said that, I'll say it's not a baby!"

"Can we get a photo?" Yasmin ignored me.

"Certainly."

Chapter 4

"Look hunny" Yasmin showed dad the photo when he came back with our lunch.

"That's our little man!" He put the photo in his wallet.

Lifting my head I noticed the black car with the black windows was parked across the street. "What are you two doing after lunch?" Yasmin asked Austin and dad.

"More shopping" dad rolled his eyes.

"Well Lexi is a tough one to shop for" Austin nudged me.

"Really, I don't need or want anything, we're getting the house."

After what felt like a long lunch, dad and Austin went back shopping; Yasmin and I got the bus back home.

Walking up to the gate, there was another envelope flapping in the wind between the gates. Yasmin pulled it out and took it inside.

I went to sit on the sofa when, "Lexi, the letter's for you."

Rushing to get it, I snatched it off the counter and read it:

DEAR LEXI,

WHY HAVEN'T YOU RESPONDED TO MY LETTERS? MAYBE YOU DON'T REMEMBER YET? NORMALLY I SEND ONE LETTER ON THE ANNIVERSERY, BUT THIS YEAR I THOUGHT ONE ISN'T ENOUGH. ALWAYS WATCHING YOU. (HOPE THE SCAN WENT WELL).

PALLAS

"Oh, my God!" I ran out towards the gate crying, I ran up and down the street looking for anyone... someone.

"Lexi?" Dad shouted from the car.

"It's freezing, go inside!" Austin yelled getting the bags out of the boot.
