Author's note: Inspired by the suicide attempt scene in A Silent Voice.

"Ellie, would you be a dear and go get our camera from our hotel room?" Hannah inquired. It was dark, but the hotel wasn't far and there was plenty of people out for the summer festival so I could go alone.

"Fine," I said, grumbling. I got up from our blanket and started making our way to the hotel room Hannah, Nanami, Samantha and I were sharing. It was a kind of chilly summer night so I zipped my hoodie up more. Finally, I reached the hotel. I went to our floor and put my wristband by the scanner to unlock our room. I had always thought that was kinda cool. Tokyo is so advanced.

"Nanami, I'm here!" I exclaimed. I saw the camera on one of the nightstands.

"Here it is," I said to myself as I grabbed it. I looked towards the balcony.

"The fireworks look even more beautiful from up here," I said out loud with a soft smile. I noticed the balcony door was open and Nanami out on it. She really did look even more beautiful with her light blue yukata with a floral design.

"She must have decided to watch the fireworks from here," I mused. She started to climb up the rail and my facial expression changed to a confused one.

"Nanami...?" I said in a puzzled manner, then it became clear to me. The girl I loved was trying to kill herself!

"N-Nanami, wait a minute!" I stumbled, frozen in the spot. "What are you doing?" I said. "Nanami!" I said slightly louder as I ran towards the balcony. "Nanami...?" I said quietly as I opened the door to the next room. She was on top of the railing now, facing away from me. The booming fireworks decorated the indigo sky. Her yukata and long blonde locks fluttered in the crisp breeze, but I didn't really pay attention to them. It all seemed like a blur. My eyes widened and I gasped.

I reached out towards her and began to race towards her. "Nanami!" I cried. I crashed into a chair and fell. The chair and some other items on the table fell, including a vase which cut my arm. It started bleeding but I didn't care. I had to get to Nanami. I just had to!

I pulled myself up and looked towards her. She was gazing up at the colourful sky which was covered in small pink and gold fireworks. "Nanami!" I shouted. I was panting and sweating heavily. "Nanami!" I shouted as loud as I could, racing towards her.

I caught her.

The fireworks continued on, still making a rumbling noise, but all I was focusing on was holding onto Nanami's wrist. She looked up at me with a shocked expression on her face as her tresses swayed in the wind.

"Nanami, hold on!" I said. I was holding onto her as tightly as I could, but my grip was slipping, so I grabbed her wrist with my other hand too.

'God, Buddha, Allah, whoever you are, if you're real, please... just give me once more ounce of strength. I don't care if I die, just please let me save her. I haven't even told her I loved her yet' I pleaded in my head. 'I won't escape from my challenges in life anymore. Starting tomorrow, I won't argue with Hannah anymore. I'll help her out with things in our house. I'll be a better friend to Nanami, to Nico, to Samantha, to everyone!' I reflected.

"Nana...mi," I struggled to get out. 'Oh, some cuts on her arms...' I thought as I saw some on her arm. Her yukata sleeves were rolled up so I could see them.

'Nanami...' I thought as memories of us as children popped up in my head. 'Just what do you actually think of me? I know I've been a bad friend lately...' I thought as a flashback of us playing dress-up as kids appeared. 'I haven't really hung out with you or checked up on you talked to you... I didn't even know you had started cutting.' A memory of her cute giggle. 'Damn it. Nanami... I'm sorry. I love you.' I said in my mind.

I looked at her once I was out of my thoughts. Tears had started forming in her eyes.

Finally, I managed to pull her up, but I fell. I screamed in fear as I started to plummet towards the ground. Nanami looked back at me with a shocked facial expression, but there was nothing she could do.

I landed in a lake.

A flashback popped up in my head. '"Would you girls like to go to the summer festival tonight?" Hannah asked as she sat at the table across from us. "I guess," I said plainly while I continued eating my eggs. "Yeah!" Samantha exclaimed cheerfully. I imagined my friends, Hannah then Nanami in my head.

'It's so cold... Everything hurts...' I reflected before I blacked out.
