"WE'VE TRIED EVERYTHING," the woman sighs

"WE'VE TRIED EVERYTHING," the woman sighs. "From family therapy with you to separating him from Yoongi when they're at home, but nothing we tried seems to have worked. He still seems to think that cat actually talks to him..."

Namjoon hums and leans back in his seat while tapping the surface of his wooden desk in thought, the wheels his mind reeling to come up with a solution.

"Okay," he begins, "and you're certain he doesn't remember our sessions when he was younger?"

The woman's husband nods, caressing his wife's hand in his own.

"You remember how he was when you came over. The boy doesn't remember a thing."

"What do we do?" The woman asks, her brows scrunched together in hopes of hearing anything that would involve helping her son. "My sister keeps asking if we should..." Her question trails off, her voice gaining a syrupy tone, and her husband eyes her in concern, but nonetheless finishes what she stopped herself from saying.

"Should we have him committed?"

Namjoon opens his mouth, and closes it before pursing his lips.

"I," Namjoon begins slowly, choosing his words very carefully, "from what I gathered, the only things in relation to schizophrenia I can associate with your son would be hallucinations and hearing voices. Of course, the symptoms can be different for everyone, but-"

"With all due respect, doctor," the man pipes up, "our son thinks a cat can articulate as a human does."

Namjoon nods. "I'm well aware, however-"

"And," the man interrupts him, "while it was cute when he was younger, M/N is fifteen now and insists we greet Yoongi as soon as we walk into the same room as him, even sometimes going as far as making us ask about his day."

Namjoon swallows, and once again nods at what the parent is saying, but the man feels like having the teen committed would be an extra step too far. Yes, it is a bit weird that he seems to really believe a cat can communicate with him, but unless M/N was a danger to himself or society, Namjoon doesn't think it's necessary to have him 'put away'. Namjoon glances at the woman, and concludes she feels the same as the doctor when he notices the way she gives her husband a weary look.

"Have you tried putting him on medications?"

She nods, fiddling with the strap to her purse that sat in her lap.

"We did when he was younger, around five, the year before we saw you, but he kept throwing up and fainting, so we stopped giving it to him. We haven't given him any since."

Namjoon exhales, running a hand over his face.

'Okay,' Namjoon thinks, 'M/N has schizophrenia...and doesn't know it. He genuinely thinks Yoongi can talk.'

"Do you think if we continued with your sessions when he was younger, M/N would still think Yoongi talks?" M/N's father asks, slightly leaning forward in his seat.

Namjoon blinks.

"Conditions like this are a bit unpredictable, so there's no telling whether or not it would have benefited him later down the road, but I think the fact that he went unmedicated for so long might have factored in his current condition. But," Namjoon looks between the married couple, "I'm not really understanding why we're talking about M/N being committed. He has done no harm to anyone, including himself, and as far as I'm concerned, believing his cat talks to him is, quite possibly, one of the least concerning things that can happen due to this serious mental disorder."

The married couple gives each other a look, and turns back to face Namjoon.

"So," M/N's mother asks, her eyes shining with a mixture of relief and hopelessness, "what do we do? Give him medications, let him continue thinking Yoongi can speak?"

"We can try medications, but that would require an explanation to M/N as to why he needs to take them." Namjoon answers, tapping his finger against his desk.

M/N's father inhales, and he looks at his wife.

"I don't know if I'm ready for that," she tells her husband truthfully. The man nods, patting the back of her hand.

"I know, but we can't let him keep going on like this. It isn't healthy."

Knowing her husband was right, she swallows, nodding.

"...Okay," she looks at Namjoon, "let's give him the medication."

END.

(A/N: I didn't really know how to end this book, so I ended it here! :) If some of you noticed, I actually hinted at this ending being the case throughout the previous chapters. Ex: M/N's father rolling his eyes when he had to say hi to Yoongi, M/N's mother giving a weird look when M/N had a conversation with Yoongi to speak to her respectfully, M/N's aunt speaking to Yoongi as if he didn't really understand her (she was speaking to him sarcastically) and constantly talking with his mother about when he should be committed (being the reason for his mother to get defensive), M/N's parents discussing whether or not to bring Namjoon over late at night, etc. That was all intended to hint that Yoongi wasn't actually talking, and M/N was just talking to himself. M/N's cousin didn't think that anything was wrong with M/N because she was a child, and children have active imaginations, so she thought he was humoring her (hence why she said she wanted a cat too, to have someone to 'talk' to). The kitten in chapters ten and eleven also couldn't speak as Yoongi could, and that was intentional. It was used as a kind of...juxtaposition between reality and what M/N normally saw and heard even though it may have seemed harmless. My original intention for this book was to only be a sort of oneshot type thing, but the ending concept came to me halfway through, and I loved the idea a little too much to ignore it. Anyway, if you read this far, this is the end of 'Meow', and I sincerely hope you enjoyed it! Thank you!💜)
