The woman behind the counter frowned at the young man before her. Scanner in hand, she ran judging eyes along the three items he slid over to her, the teen mildly distracted by the kiosk of Mentos beside him.
"This is the second time this week you've come in just to buy post-it notes." She said, sending the boy a curious look as he ran an absentminded hand along the top of his beanie. The hair protruding from the front was bright, glaring under the harsh lights above the register. The woman pursed her lips when he cautiously darted a hand towards the candy before drawing back. He didn't seem stupid enough to try and shoplift right in front of her but to be safe she eyed his pockets dubiously as she put through his items. That got his attention and he quickly snapped his gaze away from the candy, hands limp at his sides.
"Been doing a lot of studying... Jody," The boy beamed in response, wide eyes skimming over her bright name-tag. A nervous smile snaked its way to the corners as he wrestled loose from his pocket a ten-dollar note that had seen better days from his pocket and slapped it down on the counter. "It's that time of the year again."
Deciding him to be relatively harmless, if not a little odd, Jody let out a small breath and accepted the money.
"I'm sure it is." She hummed, not missing the blush that crossed his cheeks as he picked up the post-it notes. Jody was mildly alarmed when she caught the reverence on his face as he glanced down at them, grinning. Backing out the door, the teen threw her one a quick wave before ducking outside.
Jody chuckled to herself and waved back. While she may have been getting up there age wise, she still knew the face of someone in love when she saw it. Pushing the cash drawer shut she offered the teenager's retreating figure a sparing glance, shaking her head in amusement. "Good luck, kid."
