Her parents told her last night that they found someone who was probably going to be her guard. They said that he was coming over tonight for dinner and an interview. She was so frustrated, and had been for the past four weeks. First her parents were going to leave her, now she was getting a bodyguard.
Kaydi doesn't want a bodyguard, nor thinks she needs one. She doesn't want her parents to leave for a year. But, they tell her that they have to. She just doesn't understand why she can't go with them, and why they are going to leave her with a stranger, let alone a guy too. She hates it.
"Mom, why do you and dad have to leave? For a year, too?" Kaydi asks for the hundredth time.
"Honey, we have to leave on important business. You know that. I'm sorry honey. We're going to miss you too." Her mom hugs her. "Okay dear, go get ready. He'll be here soon." Kaydi slumps over. She doesn't want to meet this 'Calum' guy. She trudges to her room and flops on her bed. Stuffing her face in her pillow, she groans.
"Arrgghh! I don't want to be alone with this random guy for a whole year..." She lays there for a while before getting up and changing into a black hoodie and jeans. She goes to her bathroom and puts some makeup on. After she finishes getting ready, she hears someone knocking on the front door. Her dad opens it, letting the guy inside. Kaydi silently walks out of her room and hides upstairs, trying to listen to the conversation.
"Hello sir, thank you for inviting me over." The guy says.
"Yes of course young man! Come on in. My name is Jason Parks. This here is my wife, Hannah Parks. Please make yourself comfortable. We have our help making dinner for us. Let me go get my daughter." Her dad starts walking her direction, so she quickly goes back into her room, not wanting him to know that she had been eavesdropping. He knocks on her door, speaking through the wood.
"Honey, we have company. Please come downstairs now." He walks back downstairs, leaving her to come down on her own.
She steps out of her room and starts walking down the stairs. Looking at their couch downstairs, she sees the new guy. He looks back at her and smiles, making her trip. She's headed straight for the ground, but is quickly caught. She looks up and sees that it was the new guy who caught her. 'How did he get to me so quickly..?' The thought passes through her head, before she realizes her situation.
"Miss, are you ok?" He says. She jumps out of his arms, furiously blushing.
"I-I'm s-sorry. Y-yes I'm o-ok..." She quickly walks to her couch, sitting down and looking anywhere but at him. 'Holy crap he's hot' She thinks to herself.
"You're okay. Be careful next time, that would have been a bad fall." She looks at him, and he's smiling at her. She quickly looks down again.
"Well, I guess we should introduce you two." Her dad says. "Kaydi honey, this here is Calum Reeds. Calum, this is Kaydi Parks, the girl you may be protecting." Her parents sit down across from her, Calum sitting next to her. "She is very clumsy." Her dad jokes and laughs. They talk for a while, her parents taking turns asking Calum questions. When dinner's ready, they all move to the kitchen, again her and Calum end up sitting next to each other.
"Your family must be wealthy." Calum says, looking at her dad. "Oh! I'm really sorry, that was probably rude..." He blushes a bit, and Kaydi notices. The word 'cute' pops up in her head, and she quickly shoves it out, gaining a slight blush in the process.
"No it's ok, it wasn't. Yes we are." Her dad starts laughing. "Lets eat." They chow down on dinner, and Kaydi doesn't say anything the whole time. After dinner, Calum says that it's getting late and that he has to go home.
"Before you go." Her dad says, trying to look intimidating, but failing because of the small smile tugging at his lips. "You got the job!" He smiles big. "You will be moving into our home for the next year, young man. Come back in two days with everything you need."
"O-okay thank you! U-um I was wondering, since I'll be living here for a while, could my mom live here too? We're very poor and I want to be able to help her with anything I can." Calum asks, looking really cute. 'How can a guy be hot and cute? .....Wait, stop it!' Kaydi thinks, internally slapping herself.
"Of course! Your mom can totally stay here! That actually works better for us. It will make our sweet Kaydi less uncomfortable." Her dad says, making Kaydi blush.
"Okay thank you sir. I'll be back here in two days. Goodnight!" Calum smiles and shakes his hand before walking away. Kaydi wonders if he lives close by since he doesn't have a car.
