This chapter really gives an insight into Wendy and Simon's relationship. And of course there's Belle being extremely cute aswell. i decided to put a picture of her on the side :)
“Alright boys! Gathe-,” Simon began, only to be interrupted by his four year old sister.
“And girl!” Belle urged, “I am a girl!”
Simon tried again, “Alright boys and girl! As I was saying, gather round. We have a job to do. You see, Wendy thinks she’s all high and mighty and that we’re not cool enough to hang out with her. Ever since we got here, she’s been spending a lot less time with us. Haven’t you noticed?”
It was true. And in the eyes of his siblings, he could see that they agreed. Even Belle had a sad look of realization on her face. But Simon wasn’t sad.
He was angry.
Before, Wendy used to pay attention to him. She used to make jokes with him, trade secrets with him, cry, laugh and smile with him. Now she was…she was acting like a sister. A typical teenage, older sister who thinks that playing tag with her siblings is below her. But Simon didn’t want a sister. After moving to what seemed like the other side of the world, he didn’t want a sister.
He wanted a friend.
And when Wendy couldn’t give him that, he thought maybe Peter could. After all, he’d seemed so cool the way Wendy described him. But Wendy couldn’t even give him Peter. She couldn’t be a friend and she couldn’t give a friend.
That’s why she deserved what was coming for her. As Simon toyed with the video camera in his hand, his plan seemed more satisfying than ever.
“Alright, here’s what we’re going to do,” the children huddled together in Simon’s room, with the door closed. “A while ago, I bought this system on ebay. It’s a camera with a Bluetooth transmitter. It transmits footage to this screen, right here, so you can place the video camera out of view but still see what is being recorded, live!,” Simon explained, holding up fancy-looking set of equipment.
“Ok, great. We have some amazing camera and a tiny screen. Now, how in the world is that going to work?! Don’t you think that Wendy might notice when someone walks into her room and randomly leaves a video camera behind?” Russell exclaimed sarcastically.
“Yes! You’re right!,” responded Simon, excitedly, his deep blue eyes buzzing with electric energy. “That’s why I also bought a remote control car. I fiddled around with the wiring so that we have enough room to put the camera inside the car. And don’t worry, I carved out a small hole in the front of the car so the camera lens can peek through. Now all we have to do is ‘accidentally’ steer the car into Wendy’s room and then we’ll tell her that we’ll get it back later. And while it’s in there, it will be sending us live footage from our sister’s room!”
Simon was a genius. Well…that’s what he thought. Simon could tell his younger siblings were thinking the same thing from the idolizing looks on their faces.
“Whoa,” whispered Russell in awe. “I never realized you were so…so…”
Simon waited for him to say it; awesome, cool, amazing, super, brilliant, extraordinary…
“Nerdy,” Ok, so that was unexpected, “I mean, I always thought you were cool. But on the inside…you’re just a geek. Congratulations. You are officially a member of the dorkestra.”
That hurt. That cut real deep. Simon had been trying so hard to hide his inner geekiness. He tried to tell himself it was genius not nerdiness. Benjamin Franklin was good with electronics, but no one called him a nerd.
