Hey guys! This is one of my longer uploads because i kind of got carried away with this chapter :S I hope you all notice how sweet and funny Peter is when he's relaxed in this chapter. I think this part really shows the connection between the two of them. Things may seem smooth now but for those of you who like trouble there will be some action soon. I just need to give the charaters time to develop and grow close. thanks for hanging in :)

At recess, Peter and Wendy walked out of the classroom, sharing little smiles. The two of them had been whispering jokes to each other the whole lesson.

“So you want to head off to that flower garden place?” Peter suggested.

“Actually,” said Wendy, using her puppy dogface again, “I was wondering if we could hang out with Lily. It’s just that I hate to think that she’s just sitting there by herself everyday, and since you two seem to know each other, maybe she could join our little group.”

Peter smiled, “Of course.”

“You still have to tell the story of how you two met,” Wendy reminded him, smiling playfully.

“It was nothing really,” Peter explained as he dodged some kids blocking the hallway. He was getting all these weird glances from girls and even some boys; it was making him uncomfortable. “Basically, Lily and I went to the same preschool. Back then there was no gender segregation, no one had cooties, so boys and girls played with each other. Me and Lily both had a particular liking for building blocks, so it kind of started from there, I guess. We were friends up to grade four. The end,” he said quickly, looking anxious to get the matter over and done with.

“What happened? Why did you stop hanging out with her?” Wendy asked cautiously.

Peter looked guilty when he explained, “I…well I guess it was kind of my fault.”

“What do you mean?” Wendy asked quietly. They were outside now and they were alone on a pathway. A nice sort of silence surrounded them.

“I stopped talking to people, I just took off on my own and I didn’t really want to be part of any groups or anything. I guess since I was the only friend she had, she just decided to hang by herself after that.” He looked sad. Wendy took a step towards him, hating to see him even the least bit unhappy. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, making him jump a little like he always did. He glanced up at her and smiled, trying to lighten the mood.

“So now you can stop pestering me about it because I’ve finally told you how Lily and I met. Now, lets go before recess ends.” He slung his arm playfully around her shoulder and gave her a wicked grin. Wendy pushed his arm off with mock disgust making him laugh. Of course that just made Wendy laugh too because you can’t help it. Once Peter is happy, so is everyone else. Even the plants around them seem to wake up a little.

“You have a beautiful laugh,” he remarked quietly, smiling.

Wendy blushed automatically, “And you have an extremely charming smile, “she said sarcastically, teasing him. “I just wish you’d use it more often,” she added, more seriously but still smiling.

“For you, anything,” Peter joked, bowing slightly, trying to hide a smile.

By that time they had found Lily. She looked up from her book, surprised. Then she rearranged her expression back to its usual ‘knowing’ state.

Lily tried to look serious when she said, “Wendy, I told you that boyfriends aren’t allowed in our group.”

Wendy blushed a deep red, giving Lily total satisfaction.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” she corrected automatically, shooting daggers in Lily’s direction. A small smile played on the edge of Peter’s lips. He never understood why girls teased each other like this. With guys, if someone got on your nerves, you punched them. After their nose stopped bleeding you were back to being best friends again.
