The peaceful silence was broken by the sound of Wendy's cell phone ringing in her pocket. It woke Peter out of his trance too and he looked up curiously. Thinking that it might be her dad calling with news of Simon, she answered so fast she didn't check the caller ID.
"Hello?" said a familiar female voice.
"Lily?" Wendy guessed.
Peter smiled in recognition. Lily was one of the few people Peter knew. It made Wendy wonder exactly how they knew each other but she quickly forgot about it as her mind turned back to the person on the other line.
"From now on, my name is Cher," Lily laughed. Wendy didn't understand what she meant.
"Would you care to explain?" She asked suspiciously.
"Well," Lily began, sounding very pleased with herself, "Guess who I bumped into on the way to your house."
"You're at my house?" Wendy asked, ignoring Lily's question.
"Yeah but forget about that. Just guess who I bumped into!"
Wendy listened patiently as Lily explained exactly what happened between her and Rick. It was around then that Peter began to feel a little lost, which didn't bother him as that's how he usually felt. He just turned his focus to some distant thought although he was constantly snapped back into reality by the sweet sound of Wendy's shy laugh. It was almost contagious, making him smile without even realising it.
"You told him your name is Cher?" Wendy asked, holding back laughter.
"Yeah, it's going to make talking to him much less labouring because the whole time i'll just be thinking about how he thinks my name is Cher," replied Lily, "And hey, where are you by the way? I'm standing outside your house. I wanted to make sure that's Simon is ok."
"He's fine," Wendy began, "and I'm...out."
"With who?" Lily asked suspiciously.
Wendy sighed in defeat, knowing that she was probably better off not telling Lily who she was out with. But at the same time, she didn't want to lie.
"Just Peter."
"You're out with Peter Pan?!" Lily squealed. Wendy leaned away from Peter, not wanting him to hear the conversation, "On Monday, be prepared to tell me everything. What's the deal with you two anyway? Do you have a crush on him or something?"
"No!" Wendy answered, a little to quickly. She then whispered, "I've only known him for a week. He's just a great guy. We're just sitting around and talking."
Lily went quiet. It was almost as if lily was sending a suspicious glare through the phone. Wendy glanced up to see if Peter had heard her. It was obvious that he was trying to look as though he wasn't listening. But you could tell, by the fact that he kept clenching his jaw, that he was feeling conscious about the mention of his name.
"Where are you two exactly?" Lily questioned.
Wendy quickly pressed her cell against her shoulder as she worriedly whispered to Peter, "What do I tell her? She wants to know where we are."
"Just tell her we're in Neverland," he answered calmly, "she'll think it's a joke."
Wendy smiled in relief when Peter's advice worked. Lily hung up in a huff, thinking that Wendy was hiding something. It might have seemed annoying to some but Wendy found Lily's larger-than-life personality entertaining. Looking to her right, Wendy saw Peter smiling contentedly at nothing in particular. It made her smile too as it does with every person. You just can't help it.
