Chapter 8

AN//: I am so so sorry that I've been taking so long with the chapters, but so much have happened lately. My grandfather passed away in January, so I lost the will to do anything for months. And in March I got a part time job and a new foal to take care of. In May my other horse got sent away to someone who's gonna borrow him for the next year or two, and in June my position at that part time job got promoted to a full time job. So then I had two jobs, and no free days, just so I could earn enough money for school, which I started in august. I write when I get inspired or when I have time, but it's not as often anymore. But I really appreciate how patient you all are, So thank you, my wonderful readers.❤️

Rosalind's pov:

I woke up early and looked over at my alarm clock. It said 05.25, five minutes befor it's supposed to go off.
''I better get going so i can get to dusty and shower him too before the competition.'' I said to myself before I turned off my alarm clock and got out of bed. I walked into the bathroom and took a shower, the hot water calming my nerves a bit.
After the shower i got dressed in my normal stable wear (photo up top), and headed down to the kitchen.
I grabbed some bread and made both breakfast and lunch, and filled my water bottle. I was placing everything in my bag and eating my breakfast when Mac came downstairs.
"Hey, you ready for today?"
"I'm a little nervous actually, but I'll be fine. Filib says I'm ready, and I trust him. So..." I started fiddling with my necklace, it's something I've always done when I'm nervous.
"You'll do great, I know you will." He smiled and hugged me tightly. He started making himself breakfast and I turned to walk out the door.
"You leaving already?"
"Yeah, I want to get there early so I can spend some time with Dusty, and get him ready as well."
"All right, I'll see you there then. Bye."
"Bye."
I quickly exited the house, found my bike, and hurried to the stables.
As soon as I got there, I went into the stable and placed my stuff in the tack room next to Dusty's stuff and grabbed his brushes and the mane and tail soap and showshine.
'Hey princess!' Dusty greeted me as I approached his pasture.
"Hey buddy, you ready for today?"
'Yes!' Dusty whinnied excitedly, making me chuckle. I grabbed his halter and opened the gate, Dusty standing in the opening, patiently waiting for me to put it on.
I led him into the washing area and started washing him.
"Looks like we had the same idea." Luna's familiar voice said behind me. I turned around and saw her walking over to us with Bility.
"You mind if we join you?"
"Off course not." I smiled and we washed our horses together, laughing and joking around.
"Look at them, they're coats are shining." Luna said, stepping back to admire our work.
"Yeah, you stay and watch them. And I'll go get our brushes and rubber bands." I said, to which Luna nodded in agreement.
I went into the tac room and found Luna's stuff first and then mine. But as I exited the room I crashed into someone, making me drop the stuff I was holding and fall. And the person I crashed with landed on top of me.
"I'm so sorry!" He said, just as I said.
"Are you all right?" He hurried to his feet and reached out his hand to help me up, I took his hand and let him drag me up.
"Thank you." I smiled and looked at him, like really looked at him. He was actually pretty cute.
"Sorry, I was kinda hoping to make a good first impression in this place, and the first thing I do is crashing into you." He said shyly.
"It's okay, I'm partly to blame to. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. You new here? I haven't seen you before."
"Uh, yeah. My mom sent me to live with my uncle, said I would hopefully learn some manners. I've done one to many pranks on her I guess." I laughed with him.
"Well, my name is Rosalind, but you can call me Ro or Rose. That's what my friends do anyway. "
"I'm Vali."
"Well Vali, it was nice to meet you. But I have to get ready for a competition." I smiled at him and picked up all the stuff again.
"Here, let me help." He offered, and I handed him my box of brushes.
"Thanks." I smiled and showed him the way the grooming station where Luna and the horses were waiting.
'Hey princess, who's that?' Dusty greeted with a nicker.
"Hey buddy, meet my new friend Vali." Dusty nickered to me and just stared at him.
"Hello, what an elegant and handsome boy you are." Dusty made sound of appreciation and pushed his nuzzle into Vali's outstretched hand gently.
"Hey Ro, who's that?" Luna asked, popping out from behind Bility.
"This is Vali, he's new. Vali this is my best friend Luna and her horse Bility." Dusty knickered unhappily, making me laugh.
"My best human friend. You happy now Buddy?" He neighed happily, making all of us laugh.
"Is there anything I can help with?" Vali asked with a smile.
"We are getting the horses ready for the competition today, it's just brushing, braiding and saddling them left. But your more than welcome to help." Luna replied, giving me a weird look before smiling at Vali.
"I used to help in the stables back home, and I had a lot of time to learn how to braid."
"Well, both Ro and I suck at braiding."
"Luna! I do not suck." I crossed my arms and stared at her.
"Fine, I suck. Ro is good with mane braids."
"Thank you." I started brushing Dusty.
'I like this new guy.' Dusty nickered.
"Who should I start with?" Vali asked me, smiling that cute smile of his.
'Start with Bility, I want to see how good he is." Dusty judged, making me stifle a laugh.
"How about you start with Bility, that's Luna's horse." I smiled back.
"Okay." He looked around probably looking for brushes.
"Here, you can use mine." I said as I picked up my mane and tail brush.
"Thank you."
'You like the new guy too.'
"Oh stop it you." I pushed him playfully.

"There, now your coat is shining buddy." I stepped back to admire my work.
"And I'm done with Bility's tail." Vali said proudly. I walked over to him and boy was he talented.

"Wow! That's amazing Vali." I beamed at him.
"Thank you, but if you don't mind, I had something else in mind for Dusty." He looked at me shyly.
"Do what you want." I smiled.
"Can I braid his mane too? I want to make matching braids on him." He asked me and pointed to Dusty.
"Yeah sure, go ahead."
"Ro can you braid Bility's mane the way you always do?"
"Sure thing Luna." I grabbed her brush and started working on Bility's mane. After a few minutes I was done.

"Shit! Ro we have to go talk with Filib and get our numbers."
"Okay." I walked over to Dusty's head, avoiding looking at his tail.
"I'll be right back buddy, behave."
'I will princess.' He neighed.
"I'll look after them till you're back.»
"Thank you Vali." I smiled at him, and walked away with Luna.
"He seems nice."
"Yeah, he is. And Dusty likes him too."
"There you are. I was beginning to wonder if you'd forgotten about the time again."
"Sorry Filib, we were grooming the horses and making them ready." Luna said with an innocent smile.
"At least you're here now." He sighed and looked around.
"What are you looking for?" I asked.
"My nephew Vali, he's supposed to help around today."
"Oh, I met him just outside the tack room, he's braiding Dusty and watching him and Bility at the moment." Filib smiled and turned his focus back to us.
"Okay, then he can be your stable hand for today instead of me. Can you tell him Ro?" I nodded shyly, not liking the attention.
"Good, here are your numbers. Make sure your horses are warmed up before we start. Joey, you and River go first, Luna and Bility goes next. And Rosalind, you and Dusty go last, in case we need to catch up. Dusty's competitiveness should help there. Any questions?" He looked at all of us but neither of us did.
"Good, go get yourselves ready." Luna and I ran back towards the horses but I was stopped by familiar voices.
"Ro, there you are."Mac's voice made me turn around and a smile crept on my face.
"I'll go tell Vali that he'll be helping you today, and then I'll change. Go talk to them. Hey guys, gotta go!" She left me and disappeared around the corner.
"You forgot this by the door." Mac said and handed me a bag. I looked at him questioningly.
"Just open it and it'll all make sense." I did as he said and started laughing.
"I took your bag, didn't I?"
"Yeah, but that's what you got me for."
"I guess you're right. Thanks Mac, I'll go change." I smiled and said hi to the others as I ran to the changing room.
