"I miss my family too. I wonder if they miss us. I wonder where they are looking...Maybe they gave up,"He sighed kicking a small pebble. Were all of them just presumed dead by now? Were all the searches called off? Was it all pointless?
"Woah...Is this where you've been coming?"Roger asked running ahead. How had he never seen this before? He entered the cave without a second doubt."This is so cool...Come on Simon,"He smiled.
Simon stared at the cave, remembering the first time he came across it. It scared him, the pitch black surrounding with no stars or a moon, just dark and mysterious.
All he wanted was for everyone to get along on the island, so they all could experience what he does every night, the sweet calm of the night with stars illuminating the sky. Sometimes he would sneak back to everyone and see how they were doing, and count the boys to make sure no one was missing. That's the price of being on the island, under Jack's control. You never knew what would happen.
"Maybe they did give up, but that doesn't mean we should." Simon says softly, smiling at Roger. He sometimes thought the other boy had no heart at all for being around Jack, or maybe it's the look in his eyes that gave him that thought.
Simon instantly followed Roger, staying behind so that the boy could act as a shield if anything became too scary. "Please be careful.." he turned his head to look along the cave walls, examining anything he could.
"I'm not giving up anytime soon. I'd rather swim off than die here that's for sure...And I sure as hell won't let anything get me either,"Roger said confidently wandering through the cool cave with only light from the setting sun. He could feel water dripping onto his skin from the cracks at the top. He stopped and sat down for a moment, tired. Sometimes he didn't realize how desperately he wanted to sleep or eat. It was always hard to distinguish one pain from another now a days. It almost all felt the same...The worst pain off all though was watching his world come crashing down around him."Fair enough..I certainly wouldn't wanna die here either." Simon murmured, looking back at the entrance of the cave, watching the light disappear.
All his friends seemed to be slipping deeper into insanity, including himself. At least he had Simon, who somehow managed to stay calm. He didn't understand how he stayed so put together. Roger nearly cried last night...But not because he was sad...
He had a dream. A dream where he did horrible things...And those things made him feel happy...Satisfied...
"And I am being careful...Relax...Maybe we could just stay here tonight. I don't feel like walking back and this place is comfortable enough,"Roger shrugged."I'm exhausted...And starving...And hardly working,"He laughed a little looking into Simons eyes as the light faded fast.
Simon always managed to survive on his own because he didn't have anyone to look after, or feed, it was just himself. But Jack and the boys with him all eat meat, and get exercise from hunting, meanwhile, he does not. Fruit was good and all, but meat sounded good sometimes.
Simon stopped walking when he heard the other boy speak, processing what he just said. "Are you insane, we cant stay in here!" He said quickly, raising his voice to get Roger's attention. There was no way this was a safe idea for them, they won't be able to see in a few minutes, and won't be aware of anything in the cave but themselves. "And if you're starving, you should've eaten before you came to me..." He said stepping forward, looking straight into Roger's eyes.//Sorry it's a little shorter word count~625~
