Roger flinched hearing Simon raise his voice. He'd never heard him talk that loud before...Ever, frankly. That certainly wasn't the reaction he was expecting from the boy. He liked nature and what not, what was so bad about it?
"I did eat before I came here, but recently I've just been throwing up everything. I probably got worms from Jacks stupid pig,"He rolled his eyes, before balling his hands and turning around smashing a fist against the stone wall around them. He yelled something unintelligible as he did so.
The dark haired boy fiddled with his fingers, looking away. He was felt a shot of nervousness run through him when Roger punched the stone, his body wanting to flee from potential danger. He felt like talking now wouldn't be in his best interest if the other boy is being like this.
"And why not?"Roger asked looking around."It's better than out there with plants and mud and bugs all over the place. It's secluded and cool...I think it's a perfect place to rest,"Roger shrugged not seeing what the big deal was."What? Are you afraid of the dark or something?"He rolled his eyes standing up just so he could tower over Simon.
"What if an animal comes in here? Or we get sick because its wet..And what if I am afraid?" Simon challenged, not moving from his spot. He really didn't wanna stay here when they both didn't know what could happen.
"There's no animals on the island that are even dangerous, trust me I've been all around with Jack. Just pigs...And they are harmless,"Roger shrugged not seeing Simons point. He stretched his legs out in front of his body, closing his eyes and exhaling deeply. This was shit...
"I just want to go home!"Roger said in a panicked voice. He shook out his bruised hand making a face."I'm sorry Simon I just...All this is getting in my head,"He exclaimed no longer able to find the boys eyes in the dim light.
Simon decided to sit down, pulling his knees up to his chest, trying to keep his breathing even. He didn't want to show Roger he was nervous as all hell.
"The water won't do anything if we are only here one night and you don't have to be afraid Simon. We came all this way already whats the point in turning back,"He said and scooted close to the dark haired boy, putting an arm around him."I'll keep you safe if anything bad happens, alright?"He said with a serious tone."There's nothing to even be afraid of in the first place...Trust me..."
From then he went quiet listening to water drip softly. He could hear occasional rustling outside of animals or boys...By this time the sun had disappeared from sight and Roger could barely see his own hands in front of his face. He didn't mind though. He took what remained of his shirt off and used it as sort of a make shift pillow, laying down and gazing at Simon, expecting him to do the same.
"I survived because I'm careful..that's all." Simon defended, fully aware of any movement or sound. He was totally on edge now, the recklessness of the other boy could get them both hurt, or well, killed.
He ran his hand along the stone, feeling it damp but not too wet. Maybe it was okay to sleep here for a night, but there was no way he'd be sleeping anytime soon. Simon nodded upon hearing Roger's words of reassurance, easing himself a bit.
"I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep, you can go on and get rest though." He said in a whisper, listening to the sounds outside the cave, trying to calm down fully before he could even think about sleep. The dark haired boy wanted Roger to rest so he wouldn't be grumpy, or annoyed from lack of sleep and lash out at him for whatever reason. But being here with the other boy made him feel safe none the less.
"If you need anything just wake me up,"Roger said quietly before closing his eyes. He doubted he would sleep much either, but it was worth a try. He breathed deeply, desperately trying to clear his head. Knowing Simon was close comforted him a little...He was probably just as scared as the other boy, he just didn't show it on the outside.
After a while he was in a deep sleep, curling himself up in ball. He shivered every now and then from the water droplets hitting his skin. He saw vivid images of his home and his school...The same reoccurring visions haunting him almost every night. It quickly changed though to something that became easier to see every night...
The blood on Rogers hands and clothes...And it wasn't the blood of an animal. He could hear screaming, but it wasn't his. He didn't recognize any of the voices, except for...Simon.
He was talking to him...What the hell-
Roger quickly snapped awake realizing the boy was trying to wake him up.
"What is it?"He murmured sitting up a bit.//word count~831~
