This snippet is based on this prompt I got of Pinterest. The moment I read it, I saw the scene at the tower from Victor Frankenstein, where Igor had come to stop Victor from bringing his creation to life. I could literally see James McAvoy as Victor, feel his emotions, the wild look in his eyes. So I just had to write it. Essentially, it is the same scene from the movie, but this is how I'd write it, my version it.
For those who haven't seen the movie, Victor saved Igor's life and Igor became his sort of both helper and partner. Together they wanted to revive a man, but Igor realised Victor was meddling with things not meant for humans. Hence the scene."You think you're playing God!"
"Playing God? What about me makes you think I'm merely playing?" Victor shook his curls from his face, manic gaze fixated on Igor.
"I'm acting as God, remoulding God, wiping away the face of God and creating something better, something new in my own image."
"You're insane-"
"Insane or divine? Mad or genius? It's all two sides of spectrums you are too dull to comprehend."
"Victor, you're crossing the line! Man was not made to defy death!" Igor half-screamed. He stepped closer to Victor and tried to put his hands on Victor's shoulders and somehow bring him back to sanity. Victor pushed them away, instead stepping closer to Igor and grabbing him by the collar.
They were face to face now and Igor could clearly see the stubborn conviction in Victor's eyes. Igor was no longer sure he could Victor back from the edge of destruction.
"Man creates life, Igor." Victor's voice shook as he spit out every word. "This body, this mind, it was made to create life. But why do we have to stop there?" He was overtaken with emotions now and his body trembled with the certainty of his words.
"You like no other know what pain death has caused me. And I'm about to cure it! Finally, once and for all. If this experiment works, no one will ever have to suffer again. Think of the possibilities!" Victor smiled at the last words. He was absolutely certain, that he was on the right path, that he was born to awaken the dead. And nothing would stop him.
Victor let Igor go and stepped back, running a hand through his hair. He looked ferocious, with the dark circles under his eyes, the messy locks, the clothes that hadn't been changed in days. A wild God, come out to meddle in human life. To Igor, he'd never looked more broken.
"Victor," Igor tried again, this time his voice gentler, knowing what he said next could ruin their already damaged relationship. "This necromancy, these experiments, they won't bring him back. Your brother is gone and no electricity or artificial body will ever return him to you." He ended on a whisper. It had been a terrible thing to say, but Victor needed to move on, to stop living for the dead.
"You need to let-" he started, soothingly.
"I, need to cure death, Igor! Not for him, not for me, but for the world!" Victor shouted. "So no one else is ever left as empty as me!" His hand was on his chest and there was a tear on the brink of slipping out of his eye. Victor was aflame.
"I'll defy death! Every creature on this earth will know my name! And maybe then, maybe then-" Victor's voice cracked. He turned his back to Igor, starring out the window into the black night.
"Victor." Igor pronounced his name like a soft prayer. He raised his hand to try to touch Victor again, but froze, caged by fear. He wanted to console Victor, but didn't know how to reach him, how to break through decades of pain, misery and madness.
Victor ran his hand through his hair again, before spinning back around to Igor. For a moment, he looked up at the chandelier and when his gaze came down, both his face and eyes were red. Finally, he spoke.
"Maybe then I'd have finally paid the price for killing my brother." Victor's voice trembled, but was calmer. However the eyes that wouldn't look at Igor betrayed how much more tormented he was.
"Victor, listen to me" Igor began. "This is not you. You are not a killer. You are not to blame for his death." His voice, too, shook. He couldn't let Victor destroy himself.
"I know there is good in you. You're a good man. But if you do this, they will never remember you or your achievements. Frankenstein will go from the name of a genius doctor to the name of a monster." He stepped towards Victor and put his hand on his shoulder.
Victor looked at Igor. Then he swatted Igor's hand away and pushed past him, walking away. Igor followed him with his eyes. He couldn't help but clench his hands into fists as he choked down his failure. Victor was standing on the edge of a cliff and Igor hated himself for not being able to bring him back.
Victor paused in front of the door to the laboratory.
"You can either leave or help me change mankind forever." He growled before walking out.
