1 - Markus POV

The yells of parents and kids saying goodbye through tears are drowned out by the aching of the train, as it starts to move. Even though I'm not at any windows, I can still visualize the crying, the running, the waving. It's the same every year when the new batch of victims- sorry, students- are enrolled. It's so annoying.

Just once could we start the ride to Hogwarts peacefully? Merlin, how am I supposed to sleep with all these bawling first years?

"Oi, Markus! You better not be avoiding me!" Just when it couldn't be worst, Alex Emmons had to show up.

I see the wobbly figure of the dumbass, trying to get his bearings as the train accelerates. I don't stare for long as I walk away from him, knowing he can't catch up to me at his current state.  I open the door going to the next car, ignoring the sounds of yelling.  Alex can catch up later when he figures out how to walk on a damn train.

My thoughts are interrupted when a tall figure bumps into me, causing both of us to fall down. Great, now my shoes are scuffed! Mother just bought them too. I look at the person who bumped into me as they apologize repetitively.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you, I couldn't see you! God, I really am sorry, are you hurt? Do you need help up?" I swiftly smack away the hand the boy offers and stand myself up.

I have to crane my neck just to get a better look at him. He's still apologizing. The boy's green eyes are frantic and his blonde- almost brown- hair curls and bounces as he checks to make sure I'm not hurt, which is kind of stupid considering I only fell on carpet.

"Tsk. Calm down, I'm fine." I say bitterly. "Watch where you're going, you scuffed my shoes." I say bitterly.

I attempt bumping his shoulder, but end up bumping his arm because of how tall he is. Tsk, tall people really piss me off.

I open the door to the next car, leaving the bean pole in the section between.

After a few minutes of searching, I find the car train with my fellow slytherins.

"Hey Markus! What took you so damn long?!" Penny Hallmark, she's a fourth year, same as me, and every year, she has the exact same, straight, shoulder length hairstyle. But for some reason she changes hair colors every year. This year, it's a bright red.

I smirk and remark, "I see you're sporting Gryffindor colors now? Are you planning to betray us?"

Penny scoffs and punches me in the shoulder. "Yeah right, like I'd ever voluntarily be near those idiots. Now sit down before the train makes you."

"Speaking of, where's Alex? You didn't leave him to fend for himself did you?" Oliver Hallmark, Penny's twin. Quite possibly the only Ravenclaw I can tolerate.

"Markus I swear to god-"

"HOW DARE YOU!"

Speak of the devil.

The compartment door slides open violently as a now green Alex marches in and starts yelling in my face. "YOU," He starts. "YOU HEARD ME CALLING YOU, AND YET YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO IGNORE MY PRESENCE?! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY COMPARTMENTS I HAD TO LOOK THROUGH TO FIND ALL OF YOU?! I WALKED IN ON SOME PEOPLE MAKING OUT. MAKING OUT!"

Alex Emmons, a sixth year Slytherin, though times like these make me wonder why he isn't a Gryffindor.

"Calm down Alex, it's your fault for being so damn slow all the time. Get yourself an equilibrium."

"WHAT THE HELL EVEN IS THAT?!"

"Ah it's the part in your brain that's able to keep you balanced so you don't fall every time you try to stand." Oliver chimes in. "...you can continue."

Alex continues to yell at me until the candy trolley rolls by. The lady pushing the cart seemed unfazed by Alex's yelling, since she's possibly been through this multiple times. He finally finishes his senseless whining and buys two whole boxes of Bertie Bott's Every Flavored beans, while both Penny and Oliver get chocolate frogs to share.

I hate Bertie Bott's, I'm never able to tell what flavor I'll get and it really irritates sometimes. I'd rather stick with my reliable cauldron cakes.

After a few minutes of joking around and snacking, Oliver stands up. "Well, I'm off now, I have somewhere to be unlike you beautiful bastards."

"Hold up!" Penny yells out, "Where are you going?! It's not like people are lining up to be your friend!"

Oliver scoffs in mock sadness, "I am hurt, dear sister, thy has broken my heart into a million pieces only to step on them." He chuckles at his joke before continuing. "But like seriously, I gotta go, I'll be back in a few hours."

"Awww come on!" Alex whines, "Atleast tell us where you're going, or we'll assume you're taking some monster dump-"

"Ok that's where you stop talking." I cover Alex's mouth. I'm a little annoyed, walking out suddenly for some time isn't a thing Oliver does.

Penny chimes in again, teasing Oliver. "What, are you seeing a girl or something?"

And that's when it hit me.

"You sly niffler! You're off to see Jalissa are you?!"

"WHAT NO."

"Oh really then why'd you get so defensive?!"

"I did not! See? Perfectly calm."

"You're red as a tomato, dumbass."

Penny holds up her hand and says quite harshly, "Hold up! Who the hell is Jalissa and why have I not heard about her yet?!"

"What?" Alex looks up from his jelly beans. "O-oh yeah who is Jessica!? The people need to know!"

Oliver pinches the bridge of his nose. "Her name is Jalissa, and if you must know, she is someone I met during quidditch camp over the summer."

Ohohoho, I remember Jalissa. During quidditch camp, he spent the whole time fighting with her, and then complaining to me about the littlest things she does that "irritate" him. Like how she taps her pencil on random surfaces or hums whenever she's in a good mood.

I'm not kidding when I say it took the whole damn time we were there for him to realize his crush. We had the cliche boys vs girls matches. And every time we went up against the girls, they would beat us in a landslide, mostly because of Jalissa. I hate to be the one to admit it, but when it came to quidditch, she was freakin badass. She blocked almost all of the attacks and scored half of their goals. After the girls won, Oliver came to me and literally said,

"Shit."

Penny's still clearly confused and tense over this, so Oliver drags her out of the compartment to the hall. They talk for a few minutes before Penny slumps down, without Oliver. He already left.

Unsure of what to do, Alex just hands her a jelly bean. She takes it warily and puts it in her mouth. She makes a weird face before saying, "Blood." I shudder at the thought.

"This is why you shouldn't eat those horrid beans."

We sit in silence for the rest of the ride, with only the occasional interruption from Alex.
