Entering the Great Hall, I absorb the warmth that emanates from the candles and the bodies all gathered up in one room. I see the line of first years, excited, nervous, some are trying to look like they don't care, but the glisten in their eyes say otherwise. I say goodbye to Peggy and Jalissa, since they'll be on the other side of room at the Ravenclaw table.

Elizabeth and I make our way to the Hufflepuff table, which is unfortunately right next to the Slytherin table. I try to crouch so I don't get spotted by the others we had a run in with on the train, but all I really got was a weird look from Elizabeth. Me crouching down probably did nothing because of how stupidly tall I am now anyways.

Oh gosh I just realized that Jalissa is on the same table as Oliver. I hope she isn't having any trouble, I wonder if she told Peggy yet, since she didn't want to tell them yet on the carriage. I don't think Oliver is the confrontational type, especially in a group of people, as seen on the train, but with the two of them in the same house, I don't think that that's the only run in we'll have with him.

"Oi, Logan! Stop daydreaming and sit down!"  I get snapped out of my thoughts by Elizabeth pulling me down, the impact making me yelp in surprise. You would think that sitting on a broom in the sky all day wouldn't actually build any muscles but you're wrong. She's strong. She's strong as heck.

Like, all she does is sit on a damn flying broom and catch balls how does that give her muscles?! And I know for a fact she doesn't do any other nonwizard sports, like football or cricket.

No matter, although extremely weird, I shouldn't focus on that right now when we're about to see the new kids get sorted. Other than the food, the sorting is one of my favorite parts. And I mean everything, from the Sorting Hat's song to the looks of anticipation on each childs faces as the hat is placed on their heads. I clap for each house, and because I'm seated more in the front, I can see all of their reactions.

I like to keep an eye on the ones that look confused or scared, which might sound a little creepy, but it's not. Gosh that doesn't sound good..

But I like seeing them flourish and grow confident in their own way, you know? Even if it's a change of posture in the halls or soaring grades in classes. Plus, I want to make sure they aren't being bullied because they don't fit the normal stereotype of that house, you know? From external or internal sources. It just makes me feel better that I'm watching over them. Kind of like a fairy godmother!

I smile a little at the thought, seeing the last student being sorted into Ravenclaw. Its a girl with sandy hair, cut at the ears. I can't see her eye color though, since it's covered by her hair but her smile is big, stretching to each side of her face. I see her nearly run to the Ravenclaw table.

"Man, too bad we didn't get the final student." Elizabeth nudges me and I snort in response.

"We got the final student the last three times, it would be way too crazy to get it a fourth time."

She shakes her head and looks up to the ceiling, which is covered by tastefully placed floating candles, slowing gliding across the ceiling, giving off a warm glow opposite of the cold night outside. The stars are faintly seen above the candles, the pitch black sky contrasting the warmth of the drifting candles.

The rest of the banquet was about the same as any year: great food, great friends to share it with, and a lively night until we are directed to the dorms.

"Hey Logan, what was Jalissa so hesitant to tell us?" I look down to see Peggy, a look of anticipation in her face.

I'm surprised that she noticed Jalissa's apprehension, she usually isn't so sensitive to these things. I shake my head and tell her that it's something she should ask the person in question about. She sighs and asks me another question. "What's your first class?"
